phoned the downgrading department and told them due to buying a 50" plasma the sd box was giving my a crap picture so i couldnt justify having the full package anymore, he then said oh we do sky hd and i said its to expensive for me £210 ! he went on to say i'll just put you on hold and see what offers are available, so just before he put me on hold i said ive heard people are getting a £75 + £30 install offer he came back and said ok we can offer that, so its being fitted thursday

the hd box has a twin cable system so you'll get your lnb (the bit on the dish) changed too, make sure it is
they'll run the twin line to the box, wire it up, check it works, then away you go
the anytime fucntion that is also there will take a while to load up as it gives you "tv on demand" of various shows that have been on during the week or will be up and coming for the following week, but these, as mentioned, take time to get into the system
if you already have sky= you will notice that, for any given show, the skyHDbox will take up proportionally less space on the hard drive, even though it's twice the size, for normal telly
when you start to record HD programs then the space get's taken up really really quickly, scarily quickly as a film will take upto about 15% of the space
raw/smackdown are broadcast in hd and they take up between 12 and 13% as they ar both around 2 hours long, wrestlemania was 4 hours long and took up 25% of the space!!!!!
that said, it's well worth the initially outlay for the quality you get, even if it's broadcast in 1080i
make sure the installer sets the box to work with your telly, most new flatscreens won't work with the sky remote but when he's fiddling make sure you ask if he can set it up, make sure the sky picture settings are correct too and that all the hd channels are coming thorugh, sky will have to turn them on individually
and if you want to move the other box into another room, you'll need to get a card coded to that box, it's all very complicated, but once you figure it out, it's easy to understand

Don't mean to burst all your bubbles but be prepared for problems with your HD boxes. We are onto our 4th box now and we are already having problems with this one. We had our first box about 2 months after Sky HD came out in 2006, within a month we had our 2nd box, within 9 months we had our 3rd. That lasted over a year then packed up and like I said we have had our 4th box for about a month and we are already having problems.
Just something to be aware of, you never know, we are probably just unlucky and keep getting dodgy HD boxes

Just ordered mine. Couldnt get any less than £135 no matter what i did.
They are coming in to fit th sky hd im having all new dish and cabling and they are putting existing sky+ into bedroom.
Told them about installer just throwing cables over roof and they are now going to redo all the cabling properly either around the side of the house or through it.
Its booked for saturday so as i can tell them how i want it.
Cant wait... £64 quid a month though (ouch)

had mine fitted this morning and i must say the difference between sd channels and hd is brilliant, was watching a film on sky premiere and flicked over to the hd channel and the difference is vast, only down side is some of the hd channels are showing programs that arnt hd, you have to click the i button and see if the hd symbol is in the right hand corner of the litle box so bit of a con i spose.

Rush HD show some good stuff, if they reshow the NASCAR program, thats really worth watching
Plus Eurosport is now in HD and even though not all the programs are HD, they have more bandwidth, so even the low def stuff looks much better

Dissapointed sadly. Flicking through when i got home from work (very Late Admittedly) and i could only find about 4 programs actually broadcasting in true HD. The rest was upscaled at best.
And worse still, it wont autoswitch my TV via the HDMI, which is infuriating.

A scratchy 1950's record won't sound better on CD
Look for fairly recent movies on HD movie channels, or, national geographic/discovery stuff. BBC HD is usually pretty good too with much much more detail and clarity
