Default Atkins diet?

Has anyone ever tried the atkins diet? There is a lad at work who has lost 4 stone in the space of 6 months , he says it is down to the diet, just wondering if anyone else has ever tried it as I might give it a try

Was going to go back on it but its really hard work
you sure it was the diet and not the stress of owning a cossie

I've lost 3 stone since Christmas by quitting alcohol, I proberably could have lost more by doing some exercise but I'm allergic to it

Just eat a balanced diet, not tomuch of one thing also. I stopped eating takeaways for a while and not eating out as much. every little helps.

atkins diet works great for me and several others who i know have been on it. to make it REALLY work you must be careful to avoid ALL carbs. this means you eat fish / meat / eggs / cheese and generally avoid all processed food. makes you thirsty so drink lots of water and makes you fart a lot and your breath stinks so use sugar free breath fresheners. some alos get a mild headache occasionally.

you'll prob find after a 3 or 4 days your shits get very dry and thats when you are into a state called ketosis when your body - in the absence of any carbs to burn - starts to burn the fat off instead.

generally you can loose a stone in a week when you get to this stage IF you dont cheat by having any carbs. most people who dont lose lots in the first 2 weeks admit they cheated a bit. in the atkins diet book you are allowed to eat some carbs but the book is trying to pursuade you to reduce carbs long term. if you just want to lose a lot quickly dont think of it as 'Atkins' diet but as 'NO carbs' diet.

after the first two weeks weight loss plateaus a bit and you may suffer from 'forbidden fruit' syndrome. this is when you are desperate for something you aren't allowed (e.g. a slice of toast / pint etc) - got to be strong now if you wnat to continue!.

you can also get ketostix from the chemist and piss on them to analyse the level of ketosis your body is in - the darker the colour it goes the better.

best i did was 9kg in 10 days eating just beef / bacon / eggs / cheese / fish and the funny thing is it dont matter how much you eat!

after coming off i go about 6 months and have put the weight back on so do another 2 weeks on. you also need several sets of clothes as when the weight drops off they dont fit.

good luck

Yea this is good if you want to stay on it forever, you do loose weight very quickly ... i tried it lost loads of weight then as soon as you start eating carbs again and eating normal food the weight all creeps back on its a waist of time to be honest.

It would only ever work if you never ate carbs again and just stuck to the atkins forever

Fad diets are nothing but utter shite.

The only way to healthy nirvana is by pure hard work. If you want to lose excess fat then it's time to pound the treadmill.
