cossie v8/skyline
Hi
I've been thinking of this for a while, not in regards of doing it. Just to see if its been done. I'm not sure if they'll fit, cost of conversion etc etc, is worth it but...
Has any one fitted an supercharged american V8 or a skyline engine into a cossie?
cheers
Andrew

i've been wondering when someone was going bring up the subject of skyline/escos.
People are always slating the escos's for not being able to compete with the skylines/evo's on a high level
so why not get a skyline engine and put into a lighter escos and tune the nuts out of it. Martin Hadland can to the gearbox and u cud get someone like abbey motorsport who done 'Rocket Ronnies' skyline to do the engine
A master plan

thing is why would you want to spend all the time and money doing the conversion to take a skyline engine when you could have the car for less? which would probally handle better and suffer less from rot lol

There are FAR better tuners than Abbey!!!!!
and the Escos is not that light at all or aerodynamic and has TOTALLY outdated and wank rear suspension....
SO..... all in all... a WANK plan!

I was thinking rwd in an escort with one of the above engines.
Why rip an engine out of a skyline? probably a damaged car as said. Why do it? Why fit a zetec to a mk1 fiesta, or a cossie into a ka...or a rst in a mk3 escort....because we can.
I love skylines but for looks-i'd prefer a escort cossie, i was just thinking of combining both ;-P plus from what i've heard-it would be cheaper to tune. I could be wrong though!
From what ive seen of skyline engines-they look long-even mounted rwd. Thats why i wasn't sure if it would fit.
I had this in mind last year, because there was a damaged skyline in my local salvage yard for 1500! hmmm.
The v8 was in my head because countless times i've seen them on american TV shows-on discovery, where they've bought a brand new engine for between $10-20k with an engine with around 500bhp!
Thought it may be an interesting situation if would fit-wasn't sure about the size!

Im amazed that someone hasnt done a floorpan transplant (like wenny did with the Mk3 and the Royal Nail Van) on a Mk 3/4 escort and grafted the floorpan of an evo 3/4/5/6/7 in instead?
I would have said the early evos were similar in wheelbase length to a Mk3 /4?
At least with the evo having a transverse engine "most" things are where they should be?
That would make a nice subtle sleeper me thinks.

A fully forged stroker kit for that to make it 6.8 litre, inc rings, bearings, etc, is only about 800quid.
Yank V8s are ace. Even if you do need to spend a couple of grand to buy the engine if you wanna jump on the LS bandwagon...

V8 idea is superb, but putting Skyline or Evo lumps into old Fords? Why in the FUCK would you do that? Considering that skyline on the whole is a FAR better chassis compared to a Sierra, and also better than an EsCos, likewise with the Evo, it'd be going BACKWARDS with a performance car to do this conversion! Sure your Escort/Sierra would be better, but why bother? I'd sooner have a Skyline with an RB26 in it that a Sierra with an RB26 in it Likewise with the Evo....
Putting a big CI V8 in one tho, and better still super/turbocharged, would be a FAR better plan...

Jim- Thats a Cossie V6. Shite basically
My one is...
72cm long x 62cm wide x 72cm high.
Considering the 1UZ is only 4litre, my one is pretty small for something thats is 6.8litre with a stroker kit!

Yeah looks like it.
Good actually as length wise my bay is a bit shorter than a Skyline, making the RB a squeeze, but way wider length ways, so plenty of V8 room...

apart from the fact the the RB26 is really NOT the greatest engine in the world without spending grillions on it...

i fort they had really good engines with lots of tuning potential. thats why i fort it would be good.
gess my plan is wank
but they must have more tuning potential than the yb

V8 is the logical choice as they are barley longer than a standard 4 pot, and there is plenty of width in a cossie engine bay, but as porkie says you are already fighting a loosing battle when the first things you have to sort out is the rear suspension, then finding a decent drivetrain etc... Yankee V8's are awsome value, is odd that you can get a full set of pistons for £250 , yet 4 YB pisons are still £350+ ..
V8 4x4, would be good fun trying to make the front diff fit I would imagine.
