I hope Bush wins, and he continues to stamp out terrorism. Whever you agree or disagree with the war in Iraq, at least he is doing something about it.

As long as me and my family and friends are ok, i dont give a fook about anyone else.

F911 is pure propaganda, nothing more, nothing less. Hitler tried the same thing a little while back.
There where alot of interesting facts about current terrorism in 'Fahrenheit 9/11', however it does smart a lot of propaganda and particularly well timed with the presidency race. Would recommend people watching it - but have a very open mind. If you believe F9/11 then you'll defo want Kerry to win.

I haven''t seen it yet but I have been trying to catch the BBC2 series 'The Fear of Nightmares' which questions the actual or politically hyped up level of terrorism threat we face ? Propaganda again? - Surely not its the BBC!!!

EscortWRC although I respect your views, I think you are completely blinkered by the truth Democrats care for people who live in this world that haven't been fed with the perverbial "silver spoon" whereas republicans and other right wingers only care about the fat cats and how to get fatter!

And Fastmaul, thats a fair point you made I realise that I have contradicted my own political views with that statement, but it was said (typed) inlight of my feelings toward most Americans being very insuler I mean when I was in the states I was asked two questions-
1. do you have coke in Britain? I mean c'mon
2. this ones a right topper, Do you have television in Britain ffs it was ascottish guy 9john loggy baird) who invented the thing that imagine taht eh

I was hardly raised with a plastic spoon, let alone a silver one. I work for what I get and I went back to school at age 28 because I wanted a better deal, so *I* made it happen, it wasn't handed to me from anyone else.

If lefties want all these social programs that are not wanted by the right, let them fund them themselves, there is no law against that. I should not have money extorted from my paycheck to support anyone's family other than my own.

If you haven't been over here and witnessed *firsthand* the abuses of 'the system' you couldn't possibly understand my perspective. I have no use or sympathy for lazy people, nor do I wish to support them.

Don't 'reform' welfare, eliminate it completely.

It was never intended to be a permanent system, yet it has grown like a fungus and now seems impossible to remove. This should have been a *temporary* solution to problems with *limited* benefits, yet GENERATIONS of families exist on it. What is wrong with this picture. Able-bodied people receiving welfare should have to work for it, some form of 'community service' would be fine with me....just do *something* other than sit back and wait for the next check. It has been this way for YEARS and its sickening.

Its not about being 'compassionate' for me, its wanting a return on my extorted 'investment'

I'm not here to feed the neighborhood.

Oh, you can't be serious?

I had no idea the Democrats were so caring..............

Matt - you sound exactly like my old housemate. He suggested one night, after many beers I might add, that all prisoners should be placed on cycling machines for 6 hours of the day, and be made to generate electricity

He then went on to slate the social welfare system - the irony is that he's now claiming

Can't speak for your side of the pond, obviously....but over here its called the 'criminal justice system' not the 'victim justice system' and I suspect that's for a reason.

Having been to jail for 145 in a 55 (10 days) I've seen the 'inside' once and have no desire to again. However, it was a lot like going to high school and hardly 'penalizing' other than the sheer boredom.

If it were up to me, violent criminals would spend the rest of their days making big rocks into little ones. Maximum time on death row would be measured in days, not decades.

Do the crime, do the time...period

The gene pool could use a little chlorine now and then

Over here, the justice system is beset by the shift in blame onto the victim.

Thanks to ridiculous legal wranglings over here, crime is actually being decriminalised

You would shudder at the stories that are manking the papers over here, but I fear it's probably much the same over your way.

Right, I'm off to watch FOX for a bit of non-biased election coverage

Nobody is OWED a living by anyone else
You say this, My familly along with many others , proberly some on here. suffered at the hands of a yankie fat cat who was brought in by a right wing ( Maggie thatcher milk snatcher) to shut down our Coal mining Industry, I don't care what other people say the way it was carried out was an absolout disgrace, Thousands of people outta of a job, fammilys in ruins, communitys with nowhere to go and no prospects The welfare was set up to support good working people like this, who have been abused by the fat cats, in times of need. God forbid one day that something bad happens to your employment then who'll be needing the welfare

I"m speaking specifically about things on this side of the pond. As I've not lived in the UK, I can't comment on the goings-on there.

I do have a contingency plan and financial planning for that scenario.

You mis-read what I wrote about welfare. I said that it is OK on a TEMPORARY basis, but NOT a permanent one. It is a gap-filling measure when not abused, not a multi-generational support means.

For one, as initially stated...I'm speaking of OUR system, not yours.

For two, I also mentioned that it was OK when not abused, in the same post that you quote PART of. Read the *whole* statement rather than just the parts that support your opinion.

But to clarify....

I have no problem with the system when used as intended. Everyone needs some help at some point.

However...I have a HUGE problem with what it has become OVER HERE and reforming it won't do much, it has to be eliminated and if it is to be replaced, I hope that they start with a clean sheet of paper rather than repeat so many of the existing problems and mistakes.

Obviously you are much more passionate about this than I am. My problem is based predominantly on the economics of the entire situation, yours seems to be based on the human side.

I'd suggest that we just agree to disagree and leave it at that.

As far as WMDs go....here is a link to statements from members of the PREVIOUS administration. Take it for what you will.....

http://www.truthorfiction.com/rumors/b/bushlied.htm

I don't know how it works on your side of the pond, but over here, the dumbocrats HATE being confronted with facts that don't support their rhetoric. They particulary hate the listing of 'their' people talking about Iraq and WMDs.

If you think that the entire Iraq deal was about WMDs....I'd call that a bit naive. I think that the Iraqi people are MUCH better off without Saddam than they were with him. But that's *my* opinion.

As someone obviously concerned about the well being of other human beings, I'd expect you to understand a bit more than what is implied by your statement on WMDs.

Truth is mate, you said one thing and then contradicted it deal with it, we clearly ahve very differing views on this. You say that all the iraqi people are better off, OMFG I don't know u can possibly say this, have you been there? or have you just seen it on American TV i doubt you know the full story!! Just like me, but here we have better media coverage we dn't just see happy Iraqis on swings , playing football and American troops looking very happy We see the affects of bombings and children with severed limbs etc, now try and tell me this was the right thing to do you blinkered right wing hypocrit. You also say the whole Idea of invading Iraq wasn't about WMD. I seem to remember watching George Bush address the UN and lie through his teeth about how we should attack iraq!! what was his quote " the smoking gun, that could come in the form of a mushroom cloud" What a joke!!! Iraq didn't evan have an actiove SCUD missle FFS The truth is rarely pure, and never simple you have to remember this when you listen to what comes out of your lying F****** of a president!!

At the end of the day, I have BEEN to Iraq, spent a long time out there, and all the Iraqi's I talked to seemed genuinly happy that saddam had been removed, how would you all feel if for making comments like you all have been about the government on this thread, you would be tortured and possibly executed, have your wife raped, children taken etc??? Saddam Hussain WAS/IS a major threat to world security, he has no problems using CHEMICAL weapons on HIS OWN PEOPLE, do you think he is going to bat an eyelid about firing a few nukes at us?? the war was a blinding success, the handling afterwards has been very poor and is becoming a real problem , but at the end of the day if left alone saddam would have become HITLER all over again
No one wants to go to war or kill people, but somtimes action has to be taken for the greater good IMHO

Haven't seen F9/11. But have read "Dude, wheres my country?" very interesting book, and for those of you who can read,i'd reccommend it!
Iraq did have some capability of developing WMD's cos the USA supplied them with the ingredients and technology. They effectively helped Saddam get where he was by helping Iraq win the Iran/Iraq war. I think the world is better off without him in power but agree that the handling of Iraq post war is a disaster.
Was in Santa Monica last week and theres an ongoing memorial on the beach for all the dead US service people, brings it home just how many people have been killed ou there(as well as Iraq civilians). I truly beleive that the whole"war on terror" is bollox,it's all about oil. Whoever controls the oil, controls the world, thats a fact.
I'm not the most educated on this subject, but i've read a bit about it and most of the media is a load of shite one way or another.
Just my opnions!

Excuse me for the insult but, You have got to be an idiot to think that all Americans would even think that! I'm almost tempted to believe that you are making it up!

How about this, My first English friend to visit told me the people in that sport store were "thick" because they didn't know what trainers were.
I had to explain to him the we call them "Sneakers" here and Not Trainers.
Ok, here's another one, Our Very first time in England Taryn and I were waiting in line for the ATM and some dude just got right in front of us, NO Excuse me, no can I please..NOTHING. Ohhh I dislike all English people now!!! I'd be an Idiot if that were true. I asked him what he was doing, he said please I need to get back to work!! I'm like fine, at least say excuse me or something. It doesn't matter I guess, I try to view people as individuals and not as a whole (like yourself).

Anyway, that's my say.

we used to pay around $1.60/80 for our Premium, now thanks to you know who it's about $2.10/50 a gallon! That's a lot for us!!!
our regular used to cost about $1.10 for a gallon. So If Bush invaded Iraq for Oil, why's the price gone up!!

I don't think that the president has any direct effect on the price of oil, its simple supply and demand.

He gets blamed for a lot of things that (IMHO) are just 'due course' items....fuel is one of the big ones.

Well, I'm not so much a Bush supporter as I'm ANTI-Kerry

If given a better choice than those two, I'd have voted for it.

Production was affected in Iraq, for sure. However, it was also affected in Venezuela and Russia. Yukos is among the top 5 producers in the world (IIRC) and they have been having all kinds of problems with the Russian government that has affected production.

I'll grand you a small change in price, but not the bulk of it, how's that ?

Aye well Bush is back in again, all I can say is thanks again the rednecks who don't give a F*** about the rest of the world, such selfishness, such frustration that We in the world couldn't do nething about it, becuase one things for sure he wouldn't be looking so smug then . Oh well another four years of us putting up with Bush, yet again tahts another four years of hostility and bad feeling towards the US and its inhabitants good luck to you ! Although I did like Kerrys politics, I did see the false Charm Bush had, the false perception that he can protect Americans I don't think so, I thinkn what will happen will happen TBH, ( hope nowt happens ) but IMO I think you would have been better of witha more liberal president that would piss the rest of the world of with their Abstarct Foreign policys which have a total disregard for anyone in this world, apart from teh Rich American countrys making money from it It makes me sick
As for my Above statement saying I wouldn't help any American from now on, what was I talking about, all i menat by it was to show my belife that Americans will become more an more isolated in this world Oh well it was your choice!
