Default 300bhp 2wd sapphire v 280 bhp focus ST

Hyperthetical question, what if a 300bhp sapphire YB (RWD) met a new Focus ST on the road with around 280 bhp, which would be quickest in a straight line?

The RS would have around 300 lb t but the focus maybe more? would this be a close one or the RS/ ST definately walk it?

My money is on the ST just cos its a better package allround better grip, torque etc

If the Focus ST has got 280bhp... its surely got a couple of mods on it so will it not have a mountain of torque as well (around 340lb/ft).

Would be quite a decent race coming off a roundabout in 2nd all the way to the stupid side of the speedo, difficult one to call IMO.

Cheers,
Grant

To give you a examply, my ST is running about 265-270bhp and roughly 330lbs of torque, and when I went against my mates 330bhp saff he just waved goodbye, it was a rolling start at about 65-70mph.
The ST does have a topend problem, so unless it gains a decent gap lower down its gonna lose.
In this situation though, that ST would have to be running a full exhaust from the turbo back, remap, and more then likely a uprated intercooler to achieve a real 280 bhp, and would most likely be running 350lbs of torque upwards, and hold it far better top end, so I reckon the the ST would edge the Cossie, but not by that much.

true mate true, but what torque would the saff have?

if anything the extra ib/ft the focus has would probably cancel out the extra hp the saff has wouldn't it?

Just making it a straight weight for weight battle, which the saff would win but all the above doesn't really matter unless you get an estimate for the saffs torque, if the focus has alot more torque (i'e 50ib/ft+) then it may have a chance

Also would the turbo on the focus not kick in a lot earlier, therefore giving it a head start?

Yes, the ST is at full boost by 2000rpm, so much earlier. And if the saff is just a normal stage 2/3 at 300bhp not a gunship or anything then you can pretty much bank on the cossie having around 300lbs of torque.
I still maintain in this perticular situation the ST has the slight edge, wont batter the cossie, but will edge it.
