to be fair a well maintained cossie will last as long as anything else out there. ive passed that stage with mine and its the bmw parts that let me down nowadays.

i agreed with you way back at the start. for 2-3G id be looking at a subaru as well although im not sure why the budgets so low when he stated that money isnt a problem for him.

I had a budget set aside of Ł5k and ended up buying a fairly tidy 4x4 for Ł4 but you will need the extra grande to pay for insurance, setting it up and little bits and pieces - I fitted oil and boost gauges to mine etc.

Whatever you get spend the extra Ł150 quid getting it set up professionally. This is the best money you will ever spend on your cossie. I've got a sensible stage 1+ on mine - giving 291 bhp and 316 lbft. It flies but its still fairly modest tuning and has been totally reliable (touch wood).

Its true whats been said about subarus being cheaper but every other car on the road is a subaru. I wanted something a little less common. Also, loads of people come up to you and remark about how they had a cossie back in the day or its the car they always wanted etc. I like something a bit different.

Good luck whatever you decide.

im leaving rs turbo's soon and moving to cossies. gonna have a budget of Ł4500-5000 to spend, and think there are good cossies out there at that price.
it wont be my everyday car so if things do go wrong its not the end of the world.

i think people saying you need to spend 7k upwards for a good saff is silly, thats avarage 3door money not saff money.

but for 2-3k im afraid u wont even find a cossie, unless its got a blown engine or no m.o.t etc.

how old are you by the way? and what car do you drive right now? if you havnt got much experience with proper performance cars then i suggest you get an rs turbo for your 2-3k and enjoy that, they can be rapid things you know that can beat scoobys/evos like you want to.
