Lockheed Martin have always been pioneers in their line of work (aeroplanes - remember, they designed and built the original Stealth Bomber many many years ago) - something like that is just simply brilliant

You will also find that the average person would have never ventured further than the boundaries of there town or village... so if you where living in the area it would more than likely be in your interests to shut the fuck up about the airbase/factory...when sending a telegram or letter to your buddy Heir Schmit

Ginge - you have to remember that when the governments were telling people this, the people had never seen what a nuclear bomb could do, or have any idea of what it was capable of.

they must have when the dropped one on japan though,,,,,, this was AFTER they done that

you aint gonna tell me they SERIOUSLY thought hiding under a blanket or a table was gonna save them did they ????

why wasnt the pentgon covered in a giant tartan netting then instead of being made of 18ins thick concreate and deep security bunker ?

or a lot of tables in the wall with " in case of emergency break glass "

the americans ADMIT it was to allow the americans to go about there life with no fear,,,, they lied to them for the reason jim states

Ginge, there is a distance from the blast zone at which point duck and cover DOES make the difference.

Wouldnt have saved many lives, but WOULD have saved some.

No, far more so, but what they live to emerge to isnt worth being alive for really, as most folk who do survive the blast, wont be living for long after
The duck and cover strategy was about dealing with flying glass from the building you are in and is a sound theory

Scarey shit nuclear weapons, and to me it seems inevitable they WILL get used again at some point

no it wasnt chip, it was about in the event of a nuclear blast,,, hence the comercial had people in a field having a picnic and was told to hide under the blanket,,,,, its quite famous as a big advert to help stop public fears,,,,, but it was a lie !

That was only 1 of a series of government media about covering up, it wasnt the only one. I was referring more to the urban ones.
When you have a nuclear blast, there is all sorts of stuff flying about, in an urban area most noticeabley its glass, its better if you avoid all this, you're still fucked shortly after from radiation poisoning though of course, lol

Reality is the government have to put people's fears at rest, and the advice they were giving wasnt wrong, you ARE better off ducked and covered than stood upright staring at the bright light.

Here in Germany, in WWII, they used to set up whole air plane factories in the woods and start their finished products from the Autobahn.

But this stuff takes it to a whole different level! Cheers for the link, interesting read.

That is SO cool, im sure many of the workers would keep it quiet as its a matter of not only national security but their workplace and if that gets flattened, then how do they get cash for food and living

Very good pictures most people dont realise the extent stuff gets camd up.

Navigation was nown for being very hit and miss back in WW2. Most bombing rades only hit there proper target about 4 times out of 10. Imagine only hitting 4 in 10 targets when you can see its a big fuck off factory? Now imagine trying to bomb a factory that looks like everything else around it?

ginge,as of NOW the procedure for any military personnel in the open during a nuclear attack is to close your eyes, lay face down with your head facing the blast with helmet covering it and wait for the blast wave to pass over you in each direction, nukes dont ALL have 100 million megaton charges and the blast wave goes out beyond its lethal destructive range.
what would you suggest instead of a table?as there aint much time to run to shelter if the bomb has started falling from a plane!
