Default FRST runs HOT?

Just bought a fiesta turbo and it runs hot. i.e. in the red!

its had:

new head gasket (probably cos it cooked the last one!)
new rad
fan comes on
new temp guage sender

I thought either thermostat or water pump?

was going to either change thermos or take it out completely to see what happens.

any ideas?

both are easily changed, i'd go for the cheapest first!

out of interest, was the head pressure tested when (and if) it was refaced?

FRST run really hot IME

I remember many a summers day driving in traffic with the heaters on hot

FRST have a habit of melting the Fan relay in the fuse box you can tell its goosed when the interior fan stops working have a look it will be the charred yellow relay on the top fuse box.

IMO and experience you NEED an ally rad for FRST's

you could also try the Cool boost or water wetter products might help.

ALU Rad

and put a relay on the temperature switch,

so it doesn't have to carry the 20+ amps.

(temp switch will switch relay, wich will then switch the fan)

Also sometimes fans get wored out (well it runs as soon as you go under 30mph, lol, so it will have carried more miles then the car itself) Make sure you get a genuine fan for a FRST, as app other fiesta fans are not as powerfull ?

Thermostat gets regulary fucked too, so start with that, then leave car running, if temp goes over 98° C and fans don't come in, it will be relay or temperature switch.

Make sure you get the right temperature switch, there are different ones about.

Good point I remember everytime I'd approach lights I'd try rolling up to them to keep the car moving so the fan didn't come on

While your at it make sure the fan are getting 12v as the engine bay is quite tight the alternator gets a hard time.

I timed my fans on a std rad was 3 to 4 mins with a alloy rad it was 2 to 3mins. I can't remember exact times as it was over 10years ago.

In my first fiesta i changed the rad for a xr2i item due to the extra size and ran a front mount cooler, T3 without water and a pair of spal fans and that never went over the half way point

Is it the blue temp sender unit your using? I thought the Ka was overheating but it was the wrong sender unit.

Get the thermostat out and test it in a pot of boiling water.

I take it you got it to run?

JAmes.

Have you got a proper temp gauge to check, not just the dash gauge ?

Steve.

yea its always been running mate, jus needed a battery take it your the guy with the turbo Ka?

Right, I took the thermostat out, flushed the engine and rad and it now runs normal in traffic and cool when driving so im assuming it was the thermostat (I will replace it with a new one!)

cheers for all the help guys...until the next time I need it
