I own a vRS I saw one in black with some RS6 18inch wheels on and said "I like that". A few weeks later I blow the engine up in my Sierra Cos and sold it to get the Skoda. I didn't even drive one before it was delivered to me from the dealers and I love it... Its a VERY nice car to drive...

I don't believe I'd think twice about buying one these days if that was the sort of car I was after. I think they've come a long way in the image dept and if I replace the passat then I'd consider one.

I worked for Skoda UK when the Vrs Octavia was launched and ive gotta say the brand is still going from strength to strength.
The badge "issue" is one of the best marketing tools that Skoda UK could possibly have, because regardless of peoples opinion of it, its a recognisable brand and has such a loyal following its untrue.
I still have an Octavia as a daily hack, a 1.9 tdi (110) which ive had re-mapped to 145bhp and it goes like stink, still does 55mpg and dont look too bad either...
If youve never tried one or have "blinkers" to the product, do yourself a favour and give 'em a go. You will be pleasantly surprised.

The answer is VW are laughing!!!
skoda, seat, audi, lamborgini, bugatti, im sure there more, they aint doing bad considering their birth child was a car commisioned buy hitler and designed buy mr porsche!!
intresting fact VW used to be called KDF 'joy through cars'. hitler named the 'company this when they unveiled them to the public in 1938.
it wasnt untill 1946 when the british army took the car plant over a general rebranded it VW 'the peoples car'!!

The only Skoda I've driven that I wasn't so keen on was the latest Octavia VRS Diesel. Just So much turbo lag, you're better off with the basic 140ps diesel.
The petrol version is fantastic though

agreed - it's the same quality without the premium price
which is not very reliable - it's a marketing myth the most reliable cars are japanese

I'm not laughing because frankly - its not a real skoda.
Real skodas ceased to be made many years ago.
If I want a cheap audi/VW I'll just buy one with a Skoda badge on it these days.
I laugh more at people who actually buy VWs, given that they're daft enough to pay 'badge' tax when the Skoda equivalents are often better.

Nobody laughs at modern Skodas do they?
My brother has been in Canada for the last 10yrs or so and was shocked when he came back to the UK the other week and saw the Skodas!
His taxi back from the airport was a Skoda Superb, and he couldnt belive it, thought it was an awesome car. Last time he saw a Skoda they were all fucked Estelles and so on, lol

Great cars these days and long gone are the old jokes about Skoda's "having a heated rear window to keep your hands warm when pushing it". VW/Audi quality without the price the aforementioned.
Personaly I wouldn't have one but that's more down to me liking my Audi's ratehr than a reflection on the Skoda's ability. I will openly acknowledge in many ways the Skoda is probably the better car.

Its all subjective. Dont forget that 30 odd years ago, the likes of Datsuns and hondas were thought of as been "crap" compared to what was commenly available at the time, look at the likes of Honda now!!

Skoda is certainly not a laughing stock anymore, I'd definitely have a VRS (Octavia) even the diesel version, economy and performance!

VAG cars do not come out well compared to their japanese competition. the skoda octavia comes in at no. 29 and is the highest in the top 100 for the VAG group
