780C after the turbo is pushing it a bit, unless it's a mar-m 247 turbo.

You think so?? I think thats quite tame. Mine doesn't run too hot, but I wouldn't be worried at all at 780°c after the turbo.

Normal turbines are rated to about 850C, sure you can push them, but at the risk of losing a blade (or worse!)

was told that 800 was a safe max to run at anything over that it's time to start worrying.

I wouldn't be worried about that either.
I'd expect to see 800-850 then maybe closing down on 900 if held long enough. Wouldn't want to be in that region for very long though.

Im happy with a maximum temperature of 875.

I prefer to keep them around 800 or less when flat out if possible.

Think your more likly to see temps closing down on 1000 pre turbine so 875 max would be post i reckon.

given the potential for different airflow in the cylinders due to inlet manifold issues (which could result in egt variation across cylinders), what can be deduced from knowing the 'collated' egt? (trying to learn a bit here!)

the 'collated' EGT can be compared against 4 individual EGT's that some people will have measured and have good experience of. they will know what inlet manifolds produce what as the highest temp. on each cylinder and can judge that 1000 deg. C 'collated' gives a worst case of 1050 on the leanest cylinder for example
