It is illegal to have your car displaying numbers when on the road.

Technically if you've drove back from santa pod with the number in the back window that they've wrote on you can be done for it.

Dont know if there just lient about it but i drove around for about 2 weeks with the number in the back window of my nova after USC.

nothing gay about a laguna splitter. my estate for the council estates with genuine cossie bumper had one fitted even though nothing matched colour wise (grey car, black 4x4 cossie bonnet, white sapph bumper). i didn't care what it looked like though, it was great fun - especially with the welded diff

Whats the point in having numbers? Track cars dont have numbers only race cars do - just keep it simple & dont cover it in crap stickers which have no relevance!

its not illegal to display numbers on the side of your car. thats a myth!!!!
but.... heres a stupid but.. companies like churchill insurance will NOT insure your car if it has "race numbers" on the side of your car. if you have numbers on the side of your car, the insurance will be invalidated!!!
as i found out a couple of years ago! (before i crashed dont worry lol)

as for the stickers on the side of a car. a few of the people around me have had the 106 blue splodge decals down the front back and sides of their car without the sponsors and shopping lists. but with race nuumbers and all bar one hated having it for all the attention they got off police other people in garages in carparks etc etc etc.
its not worth the hassle unless you have a big head and like repeating yourself to every mofo who wants to know! n theres lots of em!

At the end of the day "base model escorts rule" so it doesnt matter if it looks track or wank it's still going to rule!

years ago a mate of mine had an old mini, monte carlo rally rep (very nice motor b4 any1 moans, it was done properly, caged, proper wheels, the stickers all correct etc). when he rang his insurance they wanted Ł200 extra because he had the door numbers. at the time this was a fortune, so he simply took the numbers off and had the blank white square boxes on the doors. still looked cool imho.

if you want more street cred from your bonus, your better off doing more subtle mods. check out the blue cossied mk3 escort for a very good guideline on how to make an escort look hard as fook without a helluva lot done externally.

If you can't take a joke you shouldn't drive one .
Personally I think a nice clean base model lighly modded is pretty cool for a young driver, just don't ruin it by doing stupid things to it.

Thing is mate, most of us have been there and done it, and realized as we grew a little older that it would have been a MUCH better idea to save the cash that you spend on little mods, that really do sweet fa, and have a much better car more quickly as soon as your insurance drops to a reasonable level.

and so far you have

Subtle and retro and the 'less is more' approach can be cool as you have proved.

but the Stickers Idea is totally against that...

No-one means to take the piss, its just the way this site is. We ALL rip the piss out of each other.

And because you are alot younger than some of us... you are doing the things that we thought were cool when we were younger but now we would just laugh at!

for example.. I used to have 4 earrings when I was 17! and would deffo have had my name in the window!

but now I think those things are laughably wank. Tastes change as we get older!

Dont take offence mate

The Embarrasing thing for me is, the amount I have sunk into my escort and sapphire over the last 2-3 years, I could have quite easily bought a Ferrari 360 or somthing similar

Right, this is my old road/track car :

150hp, done a 8 min lap round the ring in it, 13sec dead 1/4 mile, and covered approx 25k in it using it everyday for work, any trackday and trips to Germany.

In the whole time I owned it I had to replace the head and a gearbox, It cost Ł3000 to build from a bare shell and I so wish I never sold it.

It was subtle, reliable and bloody good on fuel.

Some fair points made my Porkie IMO, some things were cool, I've had a dozen novas in every shape and form but without doubt that white one was the best as it was a bloody sensible car to own for 18 months, through the years I've learnt that bad ass kits and loud stereos have no place in a car your actually going to use.

ive had novas in the past aswell..

and i havnt spent anywhere near asmuch on my escort as you did on that white c20xe...

i havnt got much money coming in from my job (as its only casual) but ive still managed to have quite a few nice cars imo, build a 150bhp efi turbo'd bonus (my last one) which cost me just over 3k, and now im spending money on my escort (in my sig) and my corsa run about at the same time, aswell as paying keep, paying petrol to get me about, food and drink etc, all at the age of 18, people take the piss but tbh im not as bad off as most people are...

most people taking the piss are aged 30+ i would imagine, with a decent job (i would think) and a nice car etc, but end of the day we all have got to start off somewhere..

i think the general opinion is keep it subtle with no big stickers.

if i was 18 i would be proud to drive a turbo bonus that looks like yours!

sometimes folks have to add in things like you are a tit, moron, chav etc to make them feel better about being over 30 and nearly dead

i was 32 last week chav
