Default boost control

right then , can somebody explain to me how my hks evc3 is supposed to contol its boost?

my old amal valve had one pipe to compressor, one pipe to wastegate and the last pipe venting to atmosphere , which i can totally understand.

but my hks has a pipe to wastegate , a pipe to compressor and the last pipe to the inlet after the throttle plate??

just wondering how its bleeding air off when the last pipe is on the inlet, surely it is seeing pressure here too??

as you say, when on boost on an open throttle there will be the same pressure in 2 of those ports

that's not to say that it doesn't control boost by how much it bleeds on to the actuator though. i'm pretty sure you can download a manual for it.

i have downloaded the manual and am 100% sure about the pipes.

really fecking confusing me now

if that is how they are supposed to be connected then, it's working in reverse to the standard cossie boost control valve. it will be controlling the pressure that is bled on to the actuator, rather than bleeding off

i can kind of guess what your saying but why does it need two pressure inputs?

It doesn't, the pipe that goes back to the inlet it where the bled air goes. On cars with airflow meters the already metered air that gets bled off has to be fed back into the inlet or the fueling will be off.

Note: there is a possabilty I could be wrong

ah fuck it, who cares, was just curious thanks for the inputs though

it seems to be working but its a bit of a pain as its a 2bar max controller

and if it overboosts even slightly , it then shuts down and only gives you whatever boost the actuator can hold, and takes a few seconds before it resets itself to try again.

i suppose in theory its a good system but as io want 2 bar held i think ill have to chnge it for a bigger version

having read the manual, i've seen that the valve has 3 ports so that it can be used with a twin port external wastegate so it needs a 3 port valve. when using it with an actuator with only a single connection, you need to do something with the 3rd port otherwise you would have a boost leak. simple as that i think.
