i have, had mine for nearly 2 years, good points

very smooth 5 cylinder, make a good noise
fast, wheelspin in 3rd if its wet
loads of room inside, loads
nice to drive

bad points....

eats fuel like a kunt
brakes arnt that hot

plus i had a lot of faults....

oil leaks, head gasket went, power steering pump went , heater blower motor went, door locks went, ....oil cooler pipes went, ...

I had one 6 months back, good strong engines if serviced correctly, easy to get 300+bhp out of with a chip etc

http://www.rica.nl/chiptuning/ these guys really know there stuff when it comes to t5's

downside - can be abit thirsty...

link to the volvo performance car club, should find some good info on there http://www.vpcuk.org/forums/index.php

The 850's are great cars.

Saw an R for sale a few weeks back for 2.5k, now that is a good piece of kit for the monies.

I am sure I have seen V70's sub 2k now too with a bit of Fogg on them.......

Performance for them as quoted in the sales brochure's at the time are

Saloon 0-62 mph 7.4 seconds

Estate 0-62 mph 7.5 seconds

Both models top out at 149 mph not sure if its limited or not but thats more than enough for uk road's

The 850R manual is the most powerful of the 850 range with 250 bhp and does the 0-62 mph run in 6.7 seconds and I believe is limited to 150 something. All the T5 850's can be easily remapped using an off the shelf stage one remap which takes them from 225 bhp to around 270 bhp if not more depending on the obvious condition's i.e. engine, turbo etc.

As for performance I would suspect with a remap you could be looking at early 6's to 62 mph.

As for good points/bad points you have to bare in mind even the newest 850 is now getting on for 11 years old so things like power steering rack's, head gaskets are something that could go depending on history and usage although aren't considered common faults just more age related faults. I have had to have the rack done on mine due to a leak from the n/s but its one of those things its an old car now. These cars aren't covered in cotton wool the owners drive them and if maintained they do the work required, most having covered well over 120,000 some over 200,000 without requiring major mechanical work, and most don't get an easy life either!

Fuel consumption I didn't think was all that bad according to the computer I get about 27 mpg from my 850R which is remapped and I have the air conditioning on at all times, however im not that fast a driver and I have heard of fuel consumption figures getting as low as 21 - 22 mpg when driven like they have been stolen!

I don't/can't think of anyone who I have spoken to that has specifically been disappointed with their 850 T5 the only thing I would say is yes its a Volvo and yes they are built to a very very good standard but they are constructed by us humans so are destined to go wrong once in a while but the basic mechanicals are very good and the engine is fantastic both in torque and noise. If you want one find a garage selling one and go for a test drive you might be pleasently surprised at how nicely they drive, I know I was.

EDIT

If you want an honest opinion contact the poster above, MadRuss - top top guy anything Volvo he doesn't know isn't worth knowing especially with the 850's

i got one not long ago, found it to be a really good car, only fault i can find is the fuel consumption. apart from that they are quick, the handling is good. it surprises a lot of people, they don't expect a big Volvo to accelerate the way it does.
