Default Escort 1.6si problem ... Anyone have advice

Just wondered if anyone could offer a bit of advice
I have a 98 escort 1.6 si that has serious issues lol
When i start it up it revs high for maybe a minute or 2 then returns back to around 800 rpm , hubby thought it would be the ISCV so cleaned it up and it doesnt seem to have made much of a difference ! But just lately it seems to have got worse ... when im driving everything would be normal but then the revs drop to about 4-500 rpm and its like its going to cut out and say if im going to pull out from a turning there is hardly any power at all but then kicks back to normal ! Im not sure if it connected or not but i was driving on the motorway yesterday and the fan inside come on by itself even though the switch was to off then after a few mins it goes off again
Thanks
Elly

throttle position sensor?? i would of said iscv first but u say its already been looked at. Then again though a clean up may not fix it, may be time for a new one.

At idle does it stall or revs drop when you unplug iscv? Which? Or nothing happens?

I'd put my money on TPS

Zetec "sticking valve" issue.

Ford had a release about this years ago - I know because I went through exactly the same thing on my first car which was a 96 Escort Si.

The recommended solution was Forte engine flush, and a change to a different viscosity oil which solved the problem completely - this was actually recommended by Ford on their note to dealers at the time.

As for the fan thing, my guess is that it's unrelated, but still worth looking into.

Google the sticking valve thing - loads of info out there about it.
