Default M42 Cameras ?

Northbound today from the M40 around the M42 to M6
Once on the M42 no one seemed to be speeding?
Is it every gantry has a camera?

Whats the score?

s1-

he means the gatso type ones on the M42.

900ss-

its easy to know which gantry has the cameras, as they are on BOTH sides, so look on oppo side to tell if there gonna be a camera on your gantry your going under.

id say around three quarters have cameras.

BUT im not sure when they on (there or M25). ive heard they not on unless they put the speed limit down?

Anyone know for sure? As I never speed down there as never sure, but thats not good

Win

Dont worry about the ones on the M42... they dont work and never have, quite a well known and publicised fact.

I drive it at least twice a day and I certainly dont stick to the subscribed speed limit.

The gantrys with the dummy boxes have what look like cctv cameras between the signs facing away from you.

Seriously.. dont loose any sleep.

i've been up there countless times over the past few years

if the speed limit is showing on the gantry, the cameras are active

if it's not then they are off

simple

yup

been past them things in the middle of the night, even with the roadworks on he side of the road and not a peep of paper has ever made it to my desk saying "you've been breaking the speed limit, give us money and we'll give you points"

and it's been a fair whack under the gantry too, at least 70mph and, in some cases, as high as 71mph

only save 3 minutes if you are doing 71 mph on the motorway on a 180 mph journey

just think what you could save if you were doing 72 mph!!!!

I'm obviously wrong then- only been living in Birmingham all my life and travelled up and down that section since the gatso's where there and they were installing it all and never got a single ticket through.

Nor do I know anyone who has!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I live 3 mins from the Nec and I work 3 mins from the Shirley Junction.

The flashes you see I have seen too... and they only ever seem to be lights reflecting off cars or tests which they run frequently at night.

I will say though that I never BLATANTLY speed past at stupid speeds... but I am usually 10 miles an hour over and most cars are the same or faster.

No one is saying you are wrong, but is it worth the risk?

So glad this has come up as i pulled off the m6 the other day onto the m42 southbound along that sweeping lefthander on the slipway and suddenly saw the gantry things and thought, oh no!

but on the return journey noticed only some of the gantrys had cameras as said!

also worth noting i was the only person doing 40mph along there, i was being overtaken by everything, but i didn't take the risk!

Fair play thats down to you mate, but I would pick a different place to chance my arm than a motorway littered with cameras and specs etc ... you just don't know, they are sneaky cunts, prob lulling everyone into a false sense of security, then turn them on at rush hour monday morning, could be banned before the week is out

They do work, but not all the 4 gatso,s are live. They chop and change them as i,ve seen them do it.I was racing a scooby past them last summer and when i approuched the camera,i slammed on the brakes. The scooby did,nt and got flashed.

As someone said above ,every gantry has speed camera signs but not all gantry,s have got gatso,s on.At the moment with the road works they have got timed distance camera,s.
I always do 70 under the gantrys but iv,e seen other doing 80-90 past them.Better to be safe than sorry.
