Default A frames legal or not ?

ive heard alot of ppl say they are aslong as the vehical is legal, some say for recovery only

and some ppl say there just plain illegal.

the thing is i have been going over the .gov website and cannot find ANY mention of them, so to me they cannot be illegal.

does anyone have any official links to somewhere that explains the use of a frames ???

or know where i might be able to find out

thanks rob

dont forget that the car being towed needs a valid mot and tax as the wheels are in contact with the road.

Unbraked trailer rules:

Starts half way down, "I have a motorhome"

Classed as a trailer if front wheels are off the ground mate.

Expect link explains about weights, is very little known - what spotty young copper would know about it?
Not 100% up on it, but I think braked A frames are suitable for higher weight, if they exist

the AA use braked a frames to tow almost everything & we have used a braked one to run oer to blackpool a couple of times with no bother ( not even the traffic cop telling us to slow down from 75 to 60 lol

that was in the transit

when towing with a car you may get bother as the towing vehicle is meant to be so many % heavier than the towed vehicle

Are you asking about "A" frames as in clamp to the cars suspension and steer it with the towed car still on it's 4 wheels?
OR Towing dollies as in lift the front wheels up onto the dolly and tow?

Towing dollies are "For local recovery only" and still fall foul of the unbraked trailer law (max 750kg)
Even the dollies with brakes aren't legal as the weight distribution is wrong.
