Default Induction kits on ST24

I have heard good and bad things about them and I have been looking at getting one?
People say about heat soak from them.
What are peoples thoughts on here and can some one explain heat soak?

Ive had 2 ST24s........

I had a pipercross induction kit on the first......... sounds fantastic when the secondries open up under hard throttle but thats all you really benefit because the filter sits behind the battery on the st24s so theres no straight cold feed air to benefit from so hence its just 'heat soak' from the engine unfortunatly

Just buy a panel filter if its what you want

Heat soak: meaning when there isn't sufficient flow of air in the engine bay (slow traffic or at stand still) then the kit draws hot air in to the engine and looses power.

I've had a k&n kit (57i) on my car for 8 years and feel the car runs fine, that's just with the single air duct from the bottom of the front bumper to filter that came with the kit.
I'm sure more ducting and heat shielding from the engine would be of benefit, but i've never got round to it.
Sounds lovely, V6 growl, not like the high pitched nasty 4 cyclinder noise that comes from the smaller engine induction kits.

On my ST24, I used a K&N Panel Filter and Set to the Air Box with a 1" Drill bit...

I had a k&n panel filter in mine to start with, its a mk3 but same engine as the st24. ive just changed it to an ST220 induction kit a few weeks ago. it goes better, and as above, dont want to get carried away, but it sounds awesome when the secondaries open.

We've just done a test in the next issue on an ST200. We compared underbonnet temps (on the road) between panel, induction and viper kit to see how much of a factor heat soak is.

I'm not going to give the results away, but I certainly wouldn't drill holes in my airbox!

It's on sale on 26 of this month!

easy answer is relocate the battery to the boot. i've recently done this on a mk1 supercharged zetec mondeo, engine bay temps are quite bad, the battery relocation has give me loads more room. i upt a Group A cossy filter on there and now heat soak is a thing of the past.

i tried running an airbox with my supercharger but it didnt like it one bit.

Heat soak is a bitch especially on my focus as the filter sits behind the battery right at the back of the engine bay. I have a heatshield and cold air feed but it still gets uber hot.

i havent done it with a sensor, but before i moved the battery, when i stopped the car, if i put my hand on the cone filter it was hot, much more so if i had been in traffic and/or on hot days.

now i have moved the battery, when i stop, the cone filter is clay cold.

i cant be arsed messing on with more wiring and sensors when this test is good enough for me and proves the point.

mine has an unintercooled supercharger and 4-2-1 manifold cooking the engine bay temps

the v6 mondies do get pretty bad heat soak, the engine bay is very small (for such a big car) and the engine is shoe-horned in. someone on the mondy forums did some IAT tests with temp sensors a while back and found an improvment by fitting loads of cold air feeds and putting a Naca intake above the cone filter.

i cant remember the exact figures.

There was a write up on the FFOC about different setups but not involving an open cone induction kit. Once moving for a little while at a steady speed, it doesn't make a difference but it's when stopped that the temperature will rise. And cold air feeds will not be as effective on a open cone setup as the filter won't be breathing through them directly.
