Default *pics please*seam welding and roll cages

Has anyone seam-welded their cars??? I been told its a good idea if you are going big power, but got told rarther than do the entire seam just do an inch then a few mm gap and an inch then mm gap an so on, to prevent cracking etc also has anyone got a roll cage in thier sapphire?? I'm looking to keep the standard interior ect, is it possible to fit a cage that is reasonably stiff to aid the structure and safty, but hasn't got millions of x bars going across the rear seats??

The start and stop of any weld is a inherent defect as in thats where it will crack from, fully weld it mate. Thats why stuff thats critical should have a "cats tale" at the end of the weld to take the end of the weld from the joint thats been welded (over the top for cars!)

Seam welding should be based on weld 1 inch, miss 1 inch. You will find 95% of professionally built motorsport cars welded this way Its not a butt joint so does not need a running weld.

And for even more strength I even plated over and welded up the crumple zones, which also keeps my feet dry going through watersplases

question is now, I really want to keep the standard leather interior, as there is no better fun than scaring 4 mates at once, , are there any cages that are worthwhile fitting to increase the chassis rigidity that will accomodate the standard interior, or will seam welding make it reasonably strong anyway??? Has anyone had problems with the sapphire bodyshell twisting due to high power/torque engines?

Unfortunatly components like driveshafts, gearboxes, and prop's will break WELL before anything like that happens even on a standard (non welded/caged) shell.

Erm.... NO !!

As Rus says there is no need at all to seam weld! Do and inch leave an inch works fine.
