what the gauge actually reads is pretty irrelevant. How many miles are you getting to a tank of fuel? And how much does the tank cost to fill? What car is it?

Jesus that is thirsty for one of these.
I did a bit of work on one a few months back, was running chronic CO etc, but everything else ok engine wise.
Did the usual stuff, then it went from 170 miles a tank to nearer 300 miles, from just a LAMBDA change.
It started perfect, ran perfect,(was gutless though) changed this and it flew through the previous failed MOT on retest.
We(tester and I) suspect it had been killed by TESCO dodgy fuel as he has seen a fair few, as not too far from tesco's, but was sold cheap because of sensor fault.
I got the sensor as a direct fit from ECO LAMBDA.

there is no next gear. the trip i did today was on the motorway, clear road so i was doing 70(ish) in 5th all the way
but yes il admit i do have a tendancy to thrash it a bit. if i stop will it not be as bad on the fuel?

yeh... it might be a mechanical problem, but taking it easy on the engine will help. i know that if i thrash my 1.6 esort it can drink fuel like an alcoholic behind a bar, but if i take it easy it will use half as much fuel on the same trip...

get it on a basic emissions tester and see what CO level its producing, my cab failed its mot on emissions at 4.86% CO level so had a play with a screw on the bulkhead which i was told adjusts the fueling and thus the CO levels (couldnt tell you if theres on a Zetec engine) and we managed to bring the CO levels donw to 1.86% which will make my fuel last loads longer

hope that helps

probably a combination of lambda sensor fault (possibly caused by a leaking and overfuelling injector) and a youngsters right foot.

my fiesta isnt a tin. il admit im not colin mcrae and i do think my car is the dogs, however its the best i could afford what with my insurance being nearly twice the price of the car. but im sure il learn to drive (hopefully with hints and tips off older more experienced people ie. you lot) then when i can afford it get a proper car and show that diesel focus what i have learned

i also have a 1.25 fiesta and get 45 mpg, so you are doing something wrong

to check your actual economy, use this online calculator and get back to us as you seem to be only getting half of that

35 mpg is not impossible if you do not drive economically - i.e. plan ahead, keep your distance, don't accelerate or brake severely, change gear at moderate rpm etc

what figures did you put in to the calculator?

that does indeed work out at 35mpg

£20 at 119.9 is 16.68 litres which is 3.67 gallons

divide 129 miles by 3.67 gallons and you get 35 mpg

if you know anyone that works at an mot centre, get them to check the emmissions and read any fault codes. might save you a few quid in the long run.

£40 to fill it up!
£55 quid for 47.45 litres on a clio yesterday, good job i got over 400miles from it with sensible driving

i also guessing the landrover that someone here uses is a 110 defender on a td5 or new puma engine, they are thirsty cars!

Good to see that you now have something to check on that may be the problem
