can i save a thread to save me having to look for it?

if so is it saved to my user cp?

click on thread tools (at the top of the thread) and then subscribe to the thread (can choose to get email notifications of replies too)

To view subscribed threads go to your user CP and there is a subscriptions option on the left hand side HTH
