Your options, as I see it, each of which may or may not be legal or pratical are:

Drive it somewhere off road.
Put the engine in something road legal.
Get a postal MOT.
Run it in on a set of rollers.
Just make sure you take it to a decent MOT station you can trust not to abuse it.

It will see no load, this isnt an acceptable way to run an engine in, its no different to trying to run it in in neutral effectively.

I dont have anything else to put the engine in

whats a postal MOT ?

Rollers could be an option,

how many mile do you rekon it would need to cover before safe to take it to an mot tester ?

If you dont know what a postal MOT is then dont worry mate as it wont apply to you.

Given that all an MOT involves is testing the car not under load, no road test and with minimal throttle, personally I would be quite happy to take a car with only a few miles on the clock to an MOT station.

What do you think they are going to do to it that will possibly damage it?

As long as you're booked in you're legal to drive to the MOT station with no T&T..... book one very very far away, you'll be run in when you arrive!

40 miles should do it. My local MOT station don't drive the cars until they pull it off the ramp and onto the brake rollers

Just worried that a little spotty teen apprentice will get in and rev the bollocks off it, I know i could hang around but cant realy afford to take another day off work. Hence wanting to put a few miles on it first.

just out of curiosity. postal mot = ???

Postal MOT = An MOT that arrives in the post, as opposed to you having to take the car anywhere.

A bent ticket is where you go in but they dont look at your car very hard and give you a ticket anyway, a postal one is where you just phone up and get it posted out mail order.

Not that I have ANY experience of either of course

Im not sure how true that "any MOT station anywhere in the country thing is" TBH

Im not sure if there is some "reasonable distance" it has to be within, it would be interesting to find out though!
