on the longest run (from top right cam pulley dizzy drive) you should be able to twist the belt through 90 degrees, as a rule of thumb...

most people use the 90 degree rule as dave says, but technically it should be checked using a belt tension measuring device, ford special tool 21-113 with a reading of 9.5 to 10.5 on the gauge

used to use them all the time when i was installing automotive air conditioning compressors onto test benches, as it is vital to get the correct tension as it affects bearing durability.
