Default Advice on what to do with a broken golf tdi. Break it?!?VW ppl apply within!

Hi guys

We have a 98 golf tdi that was a trusty family car up until just before xmas (timing ) when the wife decided to drive it with the oil light on until it died, then restarted and drove further till it REALLY gave up

I got a vw mechanic round to diagnose and it seems to be 1 seized solid engine! btw its done 120k miles.

Anyways its now lurking on my drive and i dunno what to do with it the tax has run out and im no sure but the mot is prob not far off.
I have seen a replacement 2nd hand 40k mile engine on ebay for £650 i think it was and my vw mate wants £200 to fit it. Is it worth the hassle?!

Do i

A. Sell it whole (yes this IS a for sale post )

B. Source engine, fit, fanny about, mot, tax etc etc

C. Break it? Would i get any money back from it at all? anyone in VW world have a clue? Maybe sell off few bits and bobs then scrap the shell?

I just cant be bothered with the hassle and its not like its worth much when complete...£1500 maybe

Would parts sell on ebay?

Help

ps all proceeds to go to new mondy st tdci

£850 plus any other bits required plus MOT & Tax all for £1500 at the end.

Id go for option A.

Just sell it on for £500 as it is and spend the money on the cossie

I suppose this isnt the place to tell you that if your wife hadnt driven it without any oil in then it could quite possibly of kept on going for another 120k miles without batting an eyelid - my Bora with the same engine as yours hit 180k today!!!

If it was me I'd buy the engine & fit it myself - and make sure the wife provided lots of beer whilst I was doing it. LOL!

Am sure theres enough scottish helping hands up there to do that with you - then for £650 you've got your car back.

SHIT i meant to say at the bottom of the post that if you read it you'd have taken it if it was closer

i just dont think its worth the hassle as its gonna need new belts etc as well come to think of it and thats best part of £200??

i'd rather someone took it whole!

are any parts worth anything to strip and sell?

i dont fancy spending on it as i dont know what else it may need. ultimately its too small for us and 3 kids, dog and couple of buggies too

Steve, if the driveshafts are the same as a 97 passat tdi, I'll have the DS or both off you as the CV boot has gone on our DS and the MOT is due July.

Chop, here are some bushes for you........

I don't think it's worth the hassle fixing it, diesel golfs are 10 a penny, it'd be easier just to buy another one and save yourself the hassle of fixing it if you really like it that much......?
