im changing the headunit in my st3 and need help identifing the live,earth and ignition live.
can anyone help?

i would say black is ground red is ign live and yellow is live or red and yellow round the other way u need a mutli meter and just put the earth on a good earth and put the live on the red or yellow with the ign off u will get a reading if it pernment live once u done that put the ign on to number one and do the same with the live and u should get two reading as one is pern and the other is ign just turn the key of and the one that stil give u a reading is pern

yeah, me to am intrigued as to what you are changing it to, the standard sony item is very good!

the standard ST3 unit is pretty poor IMHO, the early ones don't even play MP3's

I changed mine to one of these, and it sounds miles better.



I hope your not cutting the Ford loom, can't you get an ISO lead and use that ?

You wont find a switched live on the back of the new ST3 stereo if I remember correctly it has can bus.

But there is live and earth, solid black should be your earth and green and black live - if there is orange and black and green and black then it will have both switched and perm live.

To be honest if you're attempting this without a test light or any resonable knowledge at least, you're asking for trouble with modern car wiring.
