wouldn't it be worth him shelling out one time for a decent beam with a decent diff (9" ford or jag - 10.5"?) in, rather than keep replacing all these 7.5" ones?

definately, you cant break several of the same items and keep on putting the same items back in, go on spend big and spend onceIf you learn to launch to your spec it should last too.

P.S. I dont think superglue is going to work LOL

JB's been lucky so far with prices of diffs. No point spending Ł3000+ on a 9inch diff or Ł1000 on a beam as JB dont want it to grip His problem IMO is the torque going through the diff so suddenly when the clutch is dropped. I blew up 2 diffs in 2 years in my old 2wd Cos (I didn't put oil in one of them, so it ceased ) and I drove mine wrecklessly EVERY weekend!! It was around 300hp and JB's always has 430+

The weak point JB finds are the Crown Wheel and Pinion, which the pinion is pressed into the casing. Hence he has to keep replacing the casing for new CWP's. First time Ive seen him shread one like this tho

Thats about as much use as throwing a deck-chair off the titanic , Shot-peening dosn't do a great deal, gives a small % increase in strength, but IMHO you would be FAR better off just sticking a decent diff in there in the first place..... As said, the weak points are the CWP, planets etc, not a lot you can do about any of them on the cheap

Scrapyard swap to a better diff would be a good option, some of the jap stuff (200sx etc) seems pretty strong and is pennies, although would mean shelling out on modified the prop and shafts even if you DIY the actual mounts etc.

Does seem like false economy buying so many diffs though, by all accounts he has broken a dozen or more of them from what I recall him saying, which means even if he gets them for 50-100 quid a time, he is nearly there for one costing a grand to sort.

PMSL @ Some of the replys !

The first diff I had in here was a grippa wit a shot peened CWP & that didn't last that long !

I'm on No. 7 diff now & all in for all 7 including the one in the car at the mo has cost less than a ton ! and about an hour or so of my labour time to drop, strip, rebuild & refit !

A huge thanks to VERY good pals helpin source bits etc, the last diff I had was standard, I drove the car litterly 3 times, killed the planets, stripped it down & chucked me welded in there, a couple weeks later the above pictures were the result !

Been speakin to a few peeps bout an alternative option, seems promising but gotta get all the spares, fabrication etc sorted before I'm ready to chuck it in, untill then I'll have to settle for the chocolate diffs Ford gave us !

This car has been built on a budget & I have higher priorities in life such as my Family & my life, so slappin a G or 3 at the back of the car isn't really in the game plan ! I can't warrant it jus yet. Maybe if I'd spent like Chip thought I'd spent then yeah ! Jus hope the diff I'm lookin at, at the mo is up to some Fletcher abuse lol

Cheers for the comments tho !

Anyone else got any "reasonably cheap" solutions to my diff problems ? Apart from drivin it easier, cos lets be honest - Thats NOT gonna happen ! I built the car to enjoy, so that's what I gonna do !

jb
