Default Surely this is illegal?

..coming off the M20 today down a slip road (livin large in my 500bhp Merc) and i saw a white van on the grass verge..it looked like a motorway van due to its AMBER becon..but on closer look it was a fucking pig van with cameras in the window..SURELY this is entrapment,no warning signs either to reduce speed..Our police are a law onto themselves.

Completely legal... just like a officer on his own arresting you for speeding purely by reading off his speedo!

on bbc news website last week the muskers were using a camera in the back of a horsebox in north wales!

ACPO guidelines is that cameras should be clearly marked and warning signs given, but its only a "guideline" so the police dont have to follow it.

they can be as sneaky and underhand as they want, and by the sounds of it they are starting a campaign of new types of scamera van.

in suffolk they've been using them which are marked up like motorway maintenance vans for a while now, with amber lights on the top etc.

every time i see any type of van at the side of any road now i assume its the police...

Did it have 'flaps' at the top like this? If so it's just an ANPR van.

BTW, didn't realise you had a Merc!

north wales police have been doing this for years. 16 years ago they had a white fiat with a camera hidden in it parked outside a popular car park were we all used to get together. we only found out about it when my mate got caught speeding past it 4 times in 27 minutes..

what ever will they think of next......

probably turning sat-nav equipment into spy devices. Once you go over the limit the sat-nav sends out a signal to the police and u get issued with a nip.......

Indeed, the act of entrapment is NOTHING at all to do with this what so ever.

Entrapment is where the police actually partake in the act of facilitating a criminal offence to occur (ie it would havent have occured in the same manner if it wasnt for their actions)
Ie they need to actively encourage you in some way for it to be entrapment.

So a copper sat in your car actively telling you to speed, is entrapment potentially, but one parking a van with yellow signs on, isnt AT ALL.
In fact you could argue its a good move, as anyone who is prepared to speed past a clearly marked potential hazard is probably among the worst offenders.

Amazing the absolute bollocks that some people think they know about the law from watching too much american television, next Phil will be taking the 5th in an interview

The plod, sorry civilians that staff most camera vans also break the law all the time.
I have piccies of one going the WRONG way on the A11, Dual Carriageway, to park up so as to facing traffic, right next to an entry/exit so blocking the view, then proceeded to do a lousy 3 point turn before he drove off, with no seal belt on.
The road was also by a hidden dip where he did this, between Thetford and Snetterton, on mad bike weekend at snetty.

they need to be in a specific vehicle so that you don't get false readings
if it's in a horse box with very soft suspensino and it's a windy day there is no way the box will remain in the same place when the wind rocks it
so there is your way to get out of the ticket

assuming phil was doing his gangsta 2 mph down the road so everyone could see he was the pimp daddy that is

They tried to do my brother for the same thing when he lived down beside Winchester, in the end the only thing they proved was that they were behind him, and therefore woud have to go faster than him to catch up...whixh is pretty obvious really.

also, you need to have cameras where they can be seen by everyone so as to make them slow down

putting them behind bushes and on top of trees and shit just makes money while not dealing with the actually issue of being a deterent and slowing people down

in which case it could surely be pleaded as a case for entrapment as the cameras are only supposed to be placed at accident black spots, so in essenece, the police and safety camera partnership are activly encouraging driving at speed so as they get the fine money and the amulances get to pick up the pieces

i'm sure there is a court case in there somewhere, or at least 4 lines in the sun

even when there is warning signs alot of motorists dont understand them.

for instance the average speed cameras on the A14 near me go on for miles, i see people all the time speeding in between them, and then slamming on the brakes every time they go past one on the big goalpost thingies. and there is signs saying "AVERAGE speed camera's" all the way along that stretch of road

Over here theyve got hand held cameras so they park the car 50 metres up a side road then stand next to a lamp post or a tree even in between two parked car and get you.You dont even realise you got done, no signs no warning nothing just a fine in the mail you dont stand a chance.
Give it time it will end up the same, the race track is the only place youre safe
