Default Decarbing Engine!

AS the title suggests, how the hell do you get carbon deposits off the inlet/exhaust valves of a VERY high milage engine without removing the head to scrat them off without the bits falling in the combustion chamber!
my valves are in dire need of a clean and i dont wanna be taking the head off at this moment in time, are there any products on the market that ACTUALLY WORK???
discuss

mines like the left hand valve... maybe worse... n thats the INLET VALVES not the checked the exhaust valves yet???????

Don't think you can - you need to take them out to do it properly. Some additives may burn some of the carbon off, but if you're going to do a job.........

a proper job will be taking the head off. you can try some of the wynn's or redex stuff but ultimately the best way to do it is to do it properly

Mine weren't quite as bad as that pic but were really built up. I would suggest doing it properly as it took me hell of a long time to do it. I wouldnt imagine a cheap bottle of chemicals would have done hard the work i did on mine

Head off is the only way!

May i suggest a pillar drill and a sharp metal edge to clean the majority of carbon off then wet and dry to finish. Works a treat every time.

If it's a pinto it will be done in a day easy.
I use a bench grinder with a wire wheel is best, for a lazy git like me anyway, just hold on tight to the valve as they hurt when they hit you in the head.

bench grinder with wire wheel is the way to get rid of that
takes a while mind

then don't forget you've got to lap the valves back in again
