Default Wheel Hubs

Guys,

What if anything can go wrong with a hub with regards to wheel bearings ?

Reason I ask..... I replaced both front wheel bearings on my daily driver recently and whilst in the garage (whom I do trust, for now ) for something else, they commented that the front bearings had been overtightened. I accepted liability and said I would redo them, (they of course were offering to do them at great cost, whereas the bearing kit from GSF only cost £7 a side and they said that due to the mileage on the car (over 200k) they recommend complete new hubs (at even more expense) and not to just renew the races ?

Anyway, what can go wrong with the hub itself, the race is driven in and bearing cages ''bear'' on them, nothing to my knowledge inside the hub has any friction acting on it ?

Were they trying to rip me ?

its usually the bit that sits in the bearing

as that is classed as the hub mate, what the bearings sit in is a hub carrier

but the hub bit does wear, very common on escorts and sierras ive found

Not sure quite what you mean fella..................

This link shows the part that they wanted to replace part nr 30, that's the hub.
