Cool Packing up smoking, have you succeeded?

Thought i'd just say that i've been off the smokes for a year today.

I honestly couldn't imagine myself saying this 13 months ago i really couldn't...

I gave up cold turkey, no patchs, medical help nothing. Gotta say i;m quite proud of myself.. After smoking 20 a day for 13 years!

The two users i took advice from were Stu MSD + PON. Thanks lads, they been my motivation to give it a shot. And i succeeded!

Just would like to hear some stories from other members on how they got on? And did they stay off the wagon or keep clean.

Cheers, Smit

The Easy Way to Give up Smoking by Alan Carr. I read it and happily gave up. I was looking forward to finishing the book and stopping. I've never gone back. It is a very smart book and puts smoking and cigarettes into perspective.

About three years now without a fag.

my nan and a really close mate died n the same day a few years ago, both from the same illness
one was caused by being old
one was caused, possibly, by smoking

i gave up there and then, but i wasn't what you would call a heavy smoker but i could if they were available

the other thing to do is to stop buying them in the first place, and thats a lot ore difficult than it sounds as i was stopping at a ptrol station probably twice a day so the temptation to say " and 10 benson" was always there

it takes will power at the end of the day and if you think what our life will be like in the years to come and what you may miss out on if you were to get ill or pop your clogs early, it all puts things into perspective

Well done dude!
I stopped 10 months now using the same idea as you, i still have to odd one every 2-3 months when I'm really pissed, but nothing more, perhaps not perfect but I'd rather that than every hour or so!
I didn't use anything as a substitute, however the first time i tried I read Alan Carr "Easy way to stop smoking" and didn't touch a cigarette (even while drunk) for 8 months but started again practically overnight, but this time it will last, I'm still determined I won't go down that route again, i'm too tight to buy a packet of smokes now, they're far too expensive. It would actually cost me more to smoke in a month than to fuel my car for a whole month, how can you justify it.....And there's the obvious health aspect

In my experience it's more of a habit than an addiction.
i.e the people you socialise with and yoour daily routiene like having a cigarette in the morning on the way to work, having one at a coffee break etc... Try do deliberately do something (like have a conversation or get up from your desk and walk about or whatever) everytime you think about smoking, and you'll find you do it a lot less. Have you read "easy way to stop smoking"????
Too many people build it up like its a big thing (like the "pussy on a pedestal" in 40 year old virgin PMSL), it just makes it seem like one big psychological hurdle, it's not....get on with it!!!!!!!!!!

Hypno-therapist + patches + willpower and it's all good.

I gave up smoking 5 years ago, i smoked about 20 a day. I also went cold turkey, just had enough of the smell to be honest and that i felt ill alot and started to get a bad chest so i stopped there and then!! Never looked back. I just did it day by day, it was hard and i wanted a cigarette alot of the time for a while but not as much as i wanted to be healthy again!!

Best thing i ever did........

sickest habit ever.

nice one to those who have given up
dont understand why you started it in the first place!!! was it to look cool
only one person to blame

to the rest of you that do smoke. go fuck yourselves

smoking a fag is as bad as sucking dick
practice makes perfect, keep sucking you poofs

I gave up a number of months ago (Can't remember exactly when lol, think about May '07) Ive been tempted a few times to smoke, but always had the Mrs and my will power to not smoke...

Took me under 4 weeks on patches to give up (Had to cut them in half after 1st week).

Ive put on alot of weight (Me being lazy don't help lol) and I personally can't feel any difference from when I was smoking. My taste buds are craving something to eat/drink, but Ive never been able to find out what the taste Im after is (Not a fag).

Well done to others in giving up

I gave up cold turkey about 5 years ago now. I haven't even been tempted to go back. I think I just stocked up on mints and had one instead of a ciggie.

in the last 2 years, befoire i started to cough up blood, i was smoking 60min - 100max a day.

Even now, years later and doing 3 different martial arts 5hrs minimum a week, anf 1hr gym 4x a week, i honestly feel that the full effects have not yet worn of as when i get short of breath i get that horrible constricted feeling in my lungs.

Its geting better as i push harder and harder every week, but fook me i wish id never started.

A lot of damage to undo Stu..... but worth it though! Funny thing is, look at your life then and now, and the difference is remarkable. Smoking being another thing to try and drag you down.

Smit - fair play to you mate. Stick with it as it isn't easy. When I split up with a girlfriend a couple of years ago, I got hammered and had one. Fortunately, it was disgusting, and that was the only one, but the temptation remains for some time.

Stu,

where do you get time for 100 fags in one day i'm still puffing away 20 a day and that is enough, but 5 times that amount. I cant actually picture that mate.

If you can give up mate then anyone can

I think it shows how good a parent you both are, amazing. I admire you both, allot. There's nothing worse than seeing a parents smoking with there children around, in the car etc.
