3 points and a 60 pound fine.

No excuse for going through a red light, you get plenty of warning when the green turns to amber......

My cousin was hit by a car going through a red light and had spinal damage.

red light means insruance problems as well as the view them more seriously than just a speeding telling off

your joking right? You seen the lights go to amber, you then checked your mirror and decided the car behind was going too fast, so you then carried on and went through. I think you were in a rush and didn't want to stop and got caught out?!

lol at the excuse. The camera flashes about 2 seconds after it turns red.

You skipped a red light, end of...

if im right, insurers find going through a red light worse than speeding...

weve all done it at some point though, just some are clever enough not do it where theres cameras

i have been in 2 crashes in other peoples cars where someone has hit them up the arse and i could see this was going to happen to me and didn't want to make it a 3rd im well paranoid about people driving up to fast and close at lights as i think there going to hit me and a 3rd time would have just made matters even worse.

I was going to start a new thread but I'll just post it here as its more or less the same thing.

When does a camera decide to flash you?

Its happened to me on numerous occasions on the A10 travelling at 40mph and then about 10 metres or so approaching the lights, they decide to change to amber. I wont be able to stop even if I slam my brakes to the floor so instead I just floor it to pass them and get through the amber light. I normally clear the entire crossing before the red comes up. Is that OK though?

Does it have to be solid red before the camera can catch you and do you have to be going over the white line when red for it to catch you?

Is a valid one, avoiding an accident by proceeding.
I've nearly been hit up the arse, and had to pull forward to avoid being hit.
Just because you're paying attention, doesn't mean chap behind is.
Bit of a fucker, as thread proves not likely to be believed.

Guess it's human nature to try to avoid an accident if possible.
Also to avoid your car being fucked, possibly written off.
Also to avoid being injured.
Also to avoid all the agro.
Also to avoid any repairs not being too great.
Also to avoid your insurance going up in the future due to a claim.
But heh, lets play bumper cars with our own pride and joy.

Unfortunately red means stop and so does amber.

You wont get off saying you were afraid the car behind was going to hit you. I know where your coming from but still thats the way it is.

But your coming up to some lights, AND your brake lights will be on.

If the person behind rams straight into you without even braking then i think there is something seriously wrong!

Hmmmm intresting,,,, no one was there to see the situation,, only the driver,, I dnt agrree 1 bit with cameras on traffic lights .

1 Reason and 1 reason only= when approaching traffic lights with a camera. weres the drivers attention,, on the kids crossing the road or the camera and lights?????

So why dnt they give more time on amber????? Also im a class 2 lorry driver, and there no way u can stop sometimes on 40mph roads

Not the one on the way out of Braintree town center near the fountain. went green, amber, red on me in about 2 seconds. not good @ 30mph with a 2.5 ton truck and 1 ton ballast in back!! thank god ive got 9" tyres on and disk brakes all round!!

Ok so whats the rule with ambers, you know, say its a 40mph dual road, as you approach the green light it turns amber, but theres sod all you can do to stop before you reach the lights, and if you were to stop youd end up skiding in the yellow grid area making a right scene. some times theres no choise but to stay commited. in this case yould you still get a fine, as the light could possible be red just when you pass it and its out of vision?

This happens every day mate.

It happened to me when i first passed my test. I was sat at the lights and the next thing i know im 100 meters down the road sat in my written off car. Ever since that day, im looking in the mirror constantly when im sat at traffic lights.

Me too, I stop at all costs, fuck the load, not getting flashed.
The way to do it in a lorry is to slow down enough so you can stop if they change, annoying and a ballache, but way you need to do it.
This applies to all vehicles, only way to either stop comfortably, or proceed on green.

Indeed.
I think some replies are from people who have never driven, the naivity in some responses is frightening otherwise.

Try it with 10 tonne of barrels and bottles of wines/spirits/minerals, 500+ K's, 4am starts,12 hour days and task and finish
Still, 3 points and insurance shooting up is the alternative, so fuck that.
