Is the VW Beetle really the worst car on the road?
It may be much loved by classic car enthusiasts but the Volkswagen Beetle has been named the worst car in Britain. Find out why the humble Beetle has fallen from grace as we unveil the Top 10 Worst Cars in Britain.
A new book is set to enrage thousands of Volkswagen Beetle fans by naming the popular runabout as the worst car in Britain. Richard Porter, author of Crap Cars, claims the iconic motor hit the top spot because 'it’s slow, noisy and uncomfortable.'
Porter claims the biggest selling car in history is 'a dismal car with its engine in the wrong place. The only good thing about it is that after 57 years of continual production – about 55 years too many – Volkswagen finally killed it off.'
The book is described as 'a celebration of the shoddy, the inept and the downright ugly.' With the help of author Richard Porter, we unveil the Top 10 Worst Cars in Britain:
Volkswagen Beetle
‘The Beetle marks you out as a mush-brained git who knows nothing about cars. It’s slow, noisy, uncomfortable and has such a completely pathetic heater that on cold days you’d be better off setting fire to your hair.’
Austin Allegro
‘The Godfather of the terrible car – the sides are all bulbous and fat and some clot from marketing insisted it would be a corking idea to have a square steering wheel.’
Suzuki X90
‘A pretend 4x4 that would get stuck in a puddle. It doesn’t even have the saving grace of looking rugged.’
Morris Marina
‘The Marina corners with all the sure-footed competence of a child on roller skates. There’s low-tech, and then there’s the Morris Marina.’
Lada Riva
‘This is the real reason the Russians had it tough under Communist rule. A cheap and incompetent remix of a sixties Fiat, offering grimness of a miserable depth.’
Nissan Serena
‘Amazingly, the name wasn’t the worst thing about this car. No, that would be the almost complete lack of anything resembling performance.’

the guys a prat.
Its easy to pick a bunch of old cars and say "gosh theres are crap cos they don't drive like modern cars"
he's after the publicity. Like that Tory MP who said all Liverpool people were tw@ts for giving a toss about Ken Bigley getting murdered.
Say some stupid cr@p and some people will kick up a fuss and you get some publicity. Its just plain sad.
