After a cossie and have been offered this in part ex for my car, it's apparantly been converted to 4wd, how can I tell if it's a proper conversion or not? Apparently the chassis numbers match the 2wd log book but I just have a little gut feeling that all's not quite right???
Desperate to have another cossie, and love the engine spec! Help!
Anyone know the car?

I don't know the car, but looking at the ad I can't see where it says its converted?
to convert 2wd to 4x4 it needs a bulge cut in the floor on drivers footwell to clear transfer box and also "might" need half cuts out of the chassis rails for the driveshafts and also all the 4x4 stuff swapped over.

If its had 4x4 carpet in you won't see it as the carpet is formed and will be that shape until it gets flattened.
TBH you will have to go look at it and get underneath to see the work done.
I.e has it got 2wd rear diff or 4x4? what gearbox crossmember has it got (hope it not a angle iron conv)
Its not a difficult conv once the mods have been done, it's just replacing what has been taken off.
One thing on the advert is he lists it's got 4pots is a bit
as the brakes are different 2wd to 4x4 and unless brackets are made the don't swap over.

Well he said the numbers by the drivers seat matches the 2wd log book, but then he said that it has a 2wd engine in it, am I not right in saying that this is a 4wd engine...

Why would someone go to all that effort of converting it to 4x4? Why didnt they just buy a 4x4 in the first place? The only reason i can see that somebody would bother removing the engine, cutting their floor about and messing with the chassis rails (if that mod needs to be done) is if you were for some reason (perhaps a front end smash) replacing the whole front end anyway and just happened to have a load of 4x4 running gear including brakes lying about. Perhaps it is just a genuine conversion that somebody did as a project but as i said why bother? At the end of the day all thevye created is something which has already been mass produced by ford and they could have just gone straight out and bought. To me it would be like cutting the roof of an xr3i to make it into a cabriolet!
Follow your gut feeling Nik, it's there for a reason hun. I personally wouldn't take the risk, i know you really want another cossie but try and wait for the right one, will be worth it in the end.....these damn cars are money pits at the BEST of times LOL
