Default Think we could comission bigger series 1 alloys????

Right, firstly has everyone seen carlo's signature picture???? He has a pic of a lovely series 1 but it looks like he has used a bit of photoshop wizardry to make the standard wheels bigger therefore filling out the arches a bit more, personally i think the picture looks excellent. What do you think? Would it be possible just for arguements sake all the series 1 owners to comission a set of wheels to be made exactly the same design but just a weee bit bigger! Either that or some rich millionaire that has a fancy for series 1's........

Cool

This topic has been discussed a bit on www.seriesoneturbo.co.uk , after RSBrammer posted this pic as his sig. Quite a few said they would like a set, me included. I think a set of these in 7'x17' would be the bollox

Right i have been thinking about this for a wee while, I am going to get a quote to see if we can get this done, i think i have found a manufacturer and i am going to ask them about it. But before i do i better get some info,

what size or sizes would be preferable?
including offset, width etc?
Finishes?? Or should they just be a standard finish?

My own preference would be standard Ford finish, completely standard. Size wise I'd prefer 16's as I don't want to hack my arches but if 17's were the general concensus then so be it - I'd still have a set !

I'd love a set of s2 wheels on in 16 or 17 that filled the arch beter. I think the s1 wheels would be a winner as long as people don't mind paying a premium for them!

I was presuming that they mean they can manufacture the wheels from scratch, i hoped they were not talking about a pre-designated list that you choose your options from. So i phoned them this avo.

The guy basically siad they could get their manufacturer to make any wheel you want but he meant the options of different designs and sizes with stud patterns etc.

I mentioned what i was thinking about and he said they could ask the manufacturers to do it too!!!! I said there would probably be a few people wanting them and he asked if I could give him a figure as the more people the cheaper it would be. All he wants is some decent pictures of the design ( i said it would probably be better getting the correct dimensions of the design) and he could talk to them and see what happens.....

What do you lot think? Think there would be a few people wanting them, he did mention the figure ten sets of wheels but i doubt it really matters, it'll just be cheaper the more we get rustled up....

Also, late 4x4 Saph wheels (Snowflakes) in 17" too, they'd sell like hot cakes!!

Please all remember that the photoshopped version on that sig (if I am correct) has had the whole wheel enlarged.

Meaning the centre cap and studs, in real life these would be smaller than they appear on the sig, so you will have a larger area of alloy around them. Or, if you bring the radious of that area, you increase the spokes.

Just a point, might be worth getting clear shots of how they would actually look,

exactly!

I was going to mention this, i talked to the guy about this, if we could supply the correct sizes etc and he basically adjusted the percentage everything on the wheel would get bigger, including the outer voids/spokes.

Or would it be better to get the same sort of dimension of voids on a bigger wheel. I'm not sure as both of these designs are going to look different?!?!?

Carlo, do you think you could rustle up another version of the pic and try to put the original size of centre cap and studs in????

Cheers ant, thats great, it does make a wee bit of difference but i think they still look great.

Now the question is what size do you think the wheels in the pic resemble? 16,17" maybe even 18"? ??? ? ??

What ye think?

I have a feeling these are going to be around a 17" if we ever get them done. Would have prefered to get around 16" for the same reasons as Mr S1 but would they look the same.......

I'd say 16's would probably be better because im sure there are many people out there who dont want to have to hack the arches away just to fit the wheels. But i dont know, people might not be to bothered

You wont have to hack your arches to fit 17's, just the right width & offset.

My car is lowered -25mm & only ever rubbed (slightly) if you were going mental in it,(with no arch mods)over very bumpy roads, or hackin it round roundabouts like a looney, on 7.5x17 with 205/40/17's. Iff the rim was made 7' wide, you could use a 195/40/17 tyre which I would say would eliminate any rubbing without touching arches or bodykit, but would limit your tyre manufactor choice, maybe still get alway with 205's

If the mould etc cost £10K(+vat) You'd have to sell at least 120 wheels (30 cars!) at £300 a wheel each like my Monte wheels just to make your money back

No offence but bean tin owners won't pay that sort of money IMO

Cutch, I think that the wheel desginer will be able to (as you say) lengthen the spoke, and increase the centre area, getting a closer look to the original without going either to spindley or to chunky.

16's are not going to be different enough IMO so 17's is the est option. But ar 300 notes a wheel, core blimey, but could this not be opened up to the rs1600i owners???

This may get unit costs down?

i would personally say that the wheels in the photoshopped pick def look like 18's rather than 17's.As for people spending 300 per wheel.....yeah its alot of money, but look at how much people spend on management gearboxes etc etc. For something so exclusive and keeps the original look with a modern twist...... i think its a mod thats worth every penny.....

I don't think the rims with correct size centres and wheel spacing looks as good as the original photoshop Has to do with the plain area between the bolt holes and the spoked arched-gap I think.
Anyone make the spokes slightly longer increasing that arched-gap?
