Default insurance,ncb,being shafted?

hi,i have 4 years ncb on a private car policy up till about 2003,then i took out a motor traders policy as i had more than 1 car that i wanted to use when i want.that totals 9 years ncb.i cancelled the traders policy and took out a policy with a well known and reputable company as i wanted my cossie insured properly incase the worst happened,i informed them of the origin of the ncb.that was ok,got a good qoute(£523) so i took the policy out.i filled in all the bumff and sent back the proof of ncb which stated 9 years ncb(i know the most you can have is 5 years)now they are saying thet my ncb is worthless as i accrued it on a traders policy and if i cancel my policy my 9 years ncb will be null and void.but they will cover me for a premium increase of £550 which take it to £1073.im 29,clean licence, standardish car, garaged, cat 1,3000 miles a year and they offend me with this nonsense.i am livid with them.has anybody else heard anything like this before?are they right or are they acting unlawfully?

That doesn't sound right
I thought that as long as you haven't had a claim your ncb is ok whether it's a private car or a traders policy

thats what they are trying to fob me off with.i told them when i was on the phone getting my qoute that i had accrued my ncb with a traders policy.the girl on the phone yesterday said she would have to listen to the tape to see if i disclosed it or not.well i still have not heard back from them,i called today but they had not tried to get me another qoute from another company.it seems stupid,if i had had a private policy for a 950cc fiesta for 9 years how does that make me less of a risk than having a traders policy for 5 years and been driving anything i could get my hands on,ive owned and driven allsorts on that policy, hilux monster truck, cossies,rs turbos, escort cabbies,v6 nova, nova 16vs,evos.its bollocks!

I always understood Traders Insurance to be a business policy and that it didn't accrue NCB, just got more expensive if you had a shit record.
