Default Running Heatring Oil in my diesel car???

i now have a 1992 2.5 diesel mitsubishi shogun as my run around,
I am happy to pay the tax on heating oil, before i get told i need to.

But will it run fine on the 37p a litre heating oil or is it best to run a heating oil diesel mix???

A lad I worked with a couple of years ago used to run his Pug 309 on neat heating oil and never had any problems. I would personally go for a 50:50 mix to be on the safe side.

dont want to go down the road of cooking oil, filtering it etc, heating oil is cheaper than new veg oil,.

Don't know the difference but I do know that the duty relates to what you use the fuel for rather than what the tin says it is for so if they dip your tank and find red diesel you will be in bother.

Don't know how often they check cars right enough!

I looked into this as i do 600-700 miles a week, Heating oil is not very good, Runs at a much higher temp and i dont know if it has the same lubricative properties as engines designed to run on diesel.

I use straight veg oil. Works a treat as long as it isnt a lucas pump. You can mix it with diesel or fit a heat exchanger.

You apparently get more performance with veg oil too as it has a higher cetane rating than noral diesel and is more lubricative so engine works easier. ive used it neat in y landy for years even without a heat exchanger, I used to fill up with new rape oil as it burns better than sunflower and chucked in a fiver of diesel to thin it dona bit

how much are you payign for veg oil? I can't find it at much under 80p a litre, too expensive to be worth the hassle and chance of it fucking the car up?

heating oil is actually classed as 28 second kerosene, if i were u i would mix it because the oil companys have now started to put yellow dye in it so they can easily identify what it is. over the years servicing many bilers and rayburns, i have noticed an increase in soot deposits and residue in the rayburns and boiler jets, ever since they put this dye in, it has got worse so not sure what effect it could have on your injectors etc. just a small bit of useful info........ hope it helps. might run fine but mix to be safe
