So, what's better about escorts over a 4x4 saph???
Had my saph for 7 years now, and i'm starting to get the "itch" i think, I haven't driven it for a while but it's making me wander if i should change to something else, an Escort being an obvious choice.
So what is it that's better about an escort over a saph (apart from looks in some people's opionons) I'm interested to know a few peoples views, especially those who've owned both.
p.s no mention of EVO's etc if you can resist, keep this to a purely saph Vs. esc thread.
And i know the old saying "can of worms" blah blah blah.........

chassis rigidity - you will be able to tell staright away how much less flex there is in an escos - does feel more planted to the road - but that is all down to the aerodynamics .
not as comfy as a saph though - the front footwells are even smaller then a saph and the seats are not as supportive.

another obvious one - rust if you get an early big turbo one - the body work (assuming its never been pranged) is MUCH MUCH better than an equivelent age saph.

Cool, nice to see some good points!
KSA, i know what you mean, to me it's essentially the same car (mechanically) so I guess you have to look at spending the 8-10k very carefully on less rust and slightly better handling, doesn't sell itself that easily IMO....

had 2 escort cosworth, wouldn't even look at another unless over 450bhp and i didn't mind having 15k+ tired up in car that you fear something gonna happen to it if you park it up and go into town.
For me the Saph is more practical, more room, you don't have to get out everytime some1 wants in the back, parts are cheaper, they are lighter & TBH quicker is you had matching Spec Engines!
+ and this is the Big + Decent Spec, looked after Escos will set you back 14k+, if you buy a super mint 1 you'll be scared that you devalue it if you use it like it should be, it s a very fine line, for me i had a smile on my face everytime i drove mine due to the wow factor of them, and the attention they get, but this can also attract un-wanted attention!
The Saph blends in better doesn't stand out in the crowd and i've got the extra 7k in my back pocket
A good looked after decent Saph will never de-value, compare that to escos prices they are all over the place!
But all in all after having 2x Escort Cosworths and i'm now on my 5th 4x4 Saph it the Old Saph that wins hand down

Wise words! I can't say i disagree with anything you've written.
I did once get a shot of a rather nice escort and have been i n a couple over the years and it was quite boring tbh, not that it was crap or anything, i just always had this belief that the escort was so much better and it wasnt.....Lol

Weight vs 4x4 Saff, surely Saff weighs more?
I keep my Saff because they're cheap as chips and they don't stand out quite as much. But my complaint is weight, it's a heavy car. Especially when you "fix" all that empty space in the boot with subs and amps

You get all excited about 1, going in 1, driving 1 then ya hopes & dreams just aren't met and you end up feeling totally let down!

I got my Escort Cosworth purely because I'd always wanted one, for me the best looking car there is.
Drivability I would tend to agree they aren't that great standard and build wise basically they are as shonky any other Ford from the era but there is just something about the Esc Cos that is special and worth having and putting up with where as I never feel I could say that about a Saph..
I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder

Escos weighs 1304kg according to the knowledge in Evo mag. with a standard car power to weight ratio of 176 bhp per ton.
Frs weighs 1278kg and 169 bhp per ton.
Saph 4x4 is 1267kg and power to weight of 174 bhp per ton.
Would think the better areodynamics and wheel base of the escos would help its handling over a saph but the drivetrain saps power so the straight line speed suffers.

the lower 0-60 time is due to the larger turbo giving more torque than the saph once it was revving i have to say though, to get a 5.8 you'd kill and or front diff after not many goes

go and drive a saff and an escos down the motoway (u may need two drivers)....get upto say 120,30,40 and both come off the power...........watch the escos go back quicker.........the ecos is designed for round the doors/planted on the road....the saff is a slippery bastard...............

the saph is a old sloppy fanneyd women where as the ecos is a tight young dirty girl who pedels are tight it ll feel good no sagging.that is my comparison saffy = old sloppy whore escort = young fit tight chick lol
