BTRDA Wyedean Rally 2008 - Pictures!!!
Arrived for the start of Speech House, only for it to be abandoned due to 2 incidents, they said it was going to be cancelled for the rest of the stage, turns out after I'd gone it re-started, gutted.
All shot with a Nikon D50, RAW, Shutter Priority, Sigma 70-300mm, slight curves and auto colour/wb/contrast in PP.
Here's some of my fav's, a link to the rest here: http://www.djaphoto.co.uk/zenphoto/B...0Rally%202008/

was a great day, aside from the afternoon hold ups due to the speechhouse incidents. perfect weather really, wet beforehand, but dry and sunny on the day
we went to serridge, stages 2 and 7 i think it was, and sat on a fast right hander, exiting dwn the left of a fork in the road, over a transition from gravel to tarmac to gravel again. with the early sunlight over the trees, it caught a lot of people out and gave a lot of interesting lines, my mate got some pretty good pics of it on the second run through. something for you to look out for next time
think the rally was running on time up until the incidents, then we had that 20 minute or so break, but the radio car next to us let us know they were just waiting for enough cars to gather at the start of serridge 2 to get it restarted.
that escort wrc (reg H1 MUT) used to belong to our friend gary smith, awesome bit of kit we were lucky enuf to be around and go out in a number of times. his friend martin healer stil drives the other escort wrc, the 1 with the shotgun like anti lag that litterally shakes the ground and blurs your vision!!! lol
as always though, man of the day was andy burton in the pug cosworth, he was the only person to take the section we cud see flat out without braking, and only a tiny lift, his line involved skimming trees and gate posts, mad bastid!!!

I wa sunder the impression Andy wuoldn't be there in his Pug, the cambrian Rally in November was said that it as his alst one due to his car pissing on everything else lol (so quick the git got past me so fat I screwed the shot up and it
s blurry lol)
The Focus with the anti-lag was awesome, proper popping and banging through the trees,w as awesome!
Going to attempt a diff location next year, this year I was limited and as you can see, only got a selection of images the samey samey crap...

every year they try and ban andys pug, and every year i think they realise its people like him keepin the championship alive.
i cnt remember a year he hasnt been seen on the wyedean, i never doubted he would be there. i was there in the 1st year he took the pug out, with the huge spoiler, he neglects to mention it fell off upon getitn caught between the trees lol right infront of us!!!
if they ban him, he wil build sumthing else, or rally elsewhere. alfa ferrari, pug 6r4, pug opel cosworth, he wil make something. i think they really are going to change the championship next year though, but that wil involve banning all the full wrc spec mahcinery aswel, which will b a shame imho
when it comes to the wyedean, always head speech house or serridge, and u wont go wrong. after a few years u get to know the good spots. sallows vallet is another 1 to explore, as that was good back in the day

steve simpson finished 11th, luvvin them accents, noisy as fook!! lol
Andy, nice one mate, will bare that info in mind for next time. Do you follow the BTRDA series much? Next one is MArch 1st IIRC...?
dont tend to follow just the btrda events, do a lot of the national championship events too, and then theres some that combine both championships, which is even better. me n the old man tend to try and get in as many of the events as possible really, whatever is on, we go to. my dad has been going since the 70s, so is kind of sad and knows almost every stage and every point to view on them stages
the next btrda is the malcolm wilson stages on march 1st yeh, but i think theres a single venue event at rockingham, and also some tarmac stages on epynt and halfway (epynt and halfway rock for action, and you will get some awesome chances for pictures as its all open moorland), both in the next couple of weeks
