Default Price for full respray?? BIG UP PETE (WarleyDaddy)

I know it's a vague question, but how much would it cost to do a full respray on a 2002 Leon Cupra R.

I want it done in it's original colour.
I can take off bumpers, mirrors, spoilers, skirts, trim etc myself
obviously no rust or welding to be sorted.
Engine bay doesn't need doing, nor do any door shuts etc.

rough guesstimates please

( ps the reason i want it doing, is because the yellow has faded in places and i want it looking more vibrant!! ).

thankyou please

Take it it's a 5 door m8? Ide say approx with work your doing £1400 but that would be same colour but clear over base rather than solid as it wont fade then

Can you not get it machine poilished, like polished bliss do?
I'm sure it will have clearcoat being modern, so the clearcoat cleaned up and the right wax or sealant applied could have it looking better than new.
Even if not clearcoat, be plenty there to clean up and have looking good.

C4LLY and Tiff ;

Already tried machine polishing it, unfortunately it appears to be the paint beneath the lacquer that has faded, meaning the only way to get it back up is to remove the clear coat lacquer....which i don't want to do lol.

It's a very common problem on yellow Leons, it's not very very bad, but i'd like it done.

Here is a pic to show the problem ( notice the spoiler and fuel cap are a different shade....the bonnet is also lighter than the front bumper!!! )

Jesus thats faded quite badly aint it !!!

Would estimate anywhere between 850 and 1300 for a basic paint job like that mate, easy to do if ther is no rust to contend with.

I have mate....it's not the lacquer that's the problem though, it's the paint underneath

I spend a lot of time 'mopping' cars for mates ...this one is beyond it though

As for the wheels, i've not seen many aftermarket ones that suit it, so they will stay for now.

coco16i

it sure has!! well actually, compared to some i've seen it's not that bad at all

Wont help, Look at the colour of the cap! If you polish it to much, you'll fuck the paint anyway

Pigmentation of the colour thats caused that and not alot you can do even after a re-spray. Probably has alot of additive that makes it different from solid or clear over solid. I used to notice this ALOT with ford panther black after a month or two the colour was no longer deep it was faded underneath and not alot you can do but ask a painter to put less additive into colour as i found after alot of experementation thats tends to stop the bleed of colour

So they use crap clearcoat that doesn't protect against UV etc?
Although I guess very few wash car weekly, and wax it monthly, so could be that.
Feel for you mate, bit sad on a 5 year old car.

I'd be tempted to sell it, and whack mazola corn oil on it when anyone comes to look, and start again.
Still, if you're happy spending £1500 on it, all is good

the thing is, apart from the paint fading i really like it.

99% of people haven't noticed the fading unless i point it out.

i actually noticed it when i got it, but figured i could polish it up

it's got all of the optional extras too which i really like, so for the sake of spending £1k or whatever i'm not that bothered....

but i'd still like some prices off people in the know

Isn't it a paintwork warranty job? Surely they have some sort of 10 year warranty like other car manufacturers or does that not cover paint fade?

Got to be a good job mate, otherwise, future portenial buyers will be thinking it has had a nasty smash for a full respray.

If you do go ahead, then I suggest you take pictures as you have, and also a few at the bodyshop.

That way, if a buyer does spot it, then you can prove it was a cosmetic thing.

Anti corrosion, unaware on paint, doubtful.
Thing is, handbook will say to wash it every week, protect it etc.
If this had taken place, would be in a good state.

Are you sure the petrol cap and bumper havent been painted b4 mate. As my mate mrs had a cupra in red and that needed a petrol cap and ended up looking like that.Paint mtahc was shite. So maybe yours has been matched wrong as well.

Petrol cap maybe a problem snapping etc .But it also a different material which can all help that faded paint look.

Seen the state of the paint on most new cars?
Swirls and clearcoat defects galore, some requiring wet sanding.
Some even have worryingly thin thickness readings.

it common that yellow paint goes all oxygenised
as for the cost of a spray job, i was getting quotes for 3k not long back, off some places, but in the case of "its not what you know, its who you know" i took it back to where my 2 previous cars had been sprayed, i got a total spray job for 1.5k boss gave it to a lad to do, lad did a awesome job on it...but took him near on a month to do it

Look at your reflection in any new merc. Plenty of laquer for shiny shiny look, but ripply as fcuk. Every single new merc needs flatting and polishing. If you moan at the dealers they throw a flat/mop in free.

Paint on cars is the same as anything else, cheapy cheapy.

yes, AA yellow sounds about right!!

bring some arsehole cans then and we'll do it

you got that scrapper running then??

As regards paintwork warranty goes, i doubt i'd get anywhere with SEAT, apparently Simon SECS is head of customer services ( sorry simon )

might be worth a try though.

Jacko

i know you're a talented painter......how much do you think it would cost? it's gotta be one of those 'good' jobs surely? no dents, minimal stonechips, no welding or panels......just a full flash over with the gun?
