Default B&Q unbelievable

I went into the B&Q near us last night and mentioned a drill i had bought 4 months ago was about to break, the battery flanges where sheering off due to the vibration.
I was told as i cant find the recipt i could only have a credit note.
But thats ok as i would have put money to it for a better drill.

Tonight i took it back and the manager, when i explained it was in daily use ,said it was a DIY store and there products should not be use for the trade now they sell quality geer like DeWalt .
I explained that if its only a DIY store why do they do trade accounts ,and why it dose`nt have a sign near the power tools saying DONT USE EVERY DAY.
He then got a bit smug and basicly said ,if i didnt shut up complaining he wouldnt even change the battery as that is all he was offering me any how.
So i bit my lip then let him change the battery .When he came back i told him i was dissatisfied ,but he kept interupting me .I gave him my oppinion of his attitude and left.

I am a bit pissed off and am thinking of putting a half page in the local Advitiser saying not to buy B& Q`s tools if they are for daily use as they wont be guaranteed but i will proberbly get my arse sued

wat a knobber

I took a lawnmower back (unused) with receipt but out of the 28 days.

I explained that the lawn was too big for the mower and had been advised to get something bigger.

The manager said, "well how do you know you need a bigger one, you haven't used it"

I replied "Ok, I will go away and use it till it breaks, if you put in writting that when it does, you will give me a full refund or credit note"

I got the credit note straight away. Thing is, i was buying bigger mower of them

I'd have got slightly smug too......

by popping a 10mm drill bit in it and explaining that if he didn't change it I would drill his kneecaps off!!!

Doesn't matter if it's used 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, as long as it's not been missused a product is covered by a statutory 12 month guarantee. This guarantee must be honoured by the supplier (though most will claim that you will have to contact the manufacturer)
only after the first 12 months (assuming there is a longer guarantee) will the manufacturer be liable to repair or exchange your goods.

Doesn't the Sale of Goods Act say something about the product being fit for it's intended use.

Ring B&Q Customer Services and complain about the Manager while you're at it.

When i worked there as a student at weekends, we used to take anything back, receipt or not. The thing about it not being suitable for its intended use is a tough debate really, as you can't expect a Ł15 drill to survive every day.

I agree u have a 12 months manufacturers warranty and any electrical item sold must be fit for purpose and the B&Q guy had no idea what he was saying. Not sure about the bit where warranty must be sorted out thru supplier. I used to work in electrical retail and have phoned companies to try sort stuff out but sometimes they will only deal with customer directly

My pal is a buyer for B+Q and told me their criteria for tools. A drill thats lifed at (and I shit you not) 6 hours usage passes muster as thats about the use the average DIYer gives it!!!!!!!!
The only DeWalt gear I rate is their workboots!!!
Makita or Bosch pro are the daddies

i'd send head office an email and tell them how the managers attitude stinks and that you wont be in a hurry to shop there again and will reccomend that people you know dont go there.

might not change anything but it'll make u feel better!

if u pay 25 quid for a drill and it broke under a lot of hard use youd kind of expect it.

but at Ł150 you should get a lot from it really.

And there was me pissed off because I went to my local one and they didnd have the bulb I need for the kitchen. T12, 4ft, white, strip light bulb. I thought they would be a common thing but aparrantly they dont stock them now as they are old. All of the strip lights in the house & garage are T12 size.
