ye they are right across the range

the sport van is the only one to suffer from boost pipes poping off though

i would get the rubber pipes off & use a hacksaw blade or a file to ruff the faces up to stop them poping off

thats what ford are telling us to do to them just not in those words

When i got pulled the VOSA fella told me if it isnt for hire or reward there is fook all they can do about it , so stop trying to worry people

There are thousands of people towing every day that " by law " are over weight , but unless your driving like a cock or are a gobby shite when you get pulled then you shouldnt get any grief

Cheers Paul, i'm pretty much in the same boat, mine will be signed up, the car is mine and nothing to do with the business

As you say unless your acting like a cock I think you'd be very unlucky to get pulled.

they told us they were clamping down on it paul, even caravans are going to get pulled in, its something to do with a percentage of the weight between the car/van and what your dragging, just watch out for them lol

Well that means anyone with a tranny van is fucked because the only tranny with a big enough train weight will be the twin rear axel ones

It doesnt realy matter if i have the sport van or my old 3500kg van as there both over the limit for towing a car and trailor

im shocked at this Paul, illegal is illegal, and if you do get caught - massive fine as above

that is why we always use big vans for the GTW - from what i can see is you have bought a spanking van that is only use is as a van - not a towing vehicle, if thats the case your fine.

ive never been over weight on my vans- i know the law, and have once been part of the enforcement team, and seeing the punishment was enough for me to buy the correct vehicle always, the minimum GTW for twin axle and large car e.g cosworths is 5100kg (as long as the vans empty)

we always use +5500kg as the van carries practically a spare car

Does...

'Gross total weight' mean van only,
and
'Gross combination weight' mean van and trailor?

GTW = gross train weight i.e van and trailor, some terminology quites slightly diff but thats the general norm on it.

my van used to weigh in at 3100kgs constantly, then it was plus trailer and car so a 5500kg GTW giving me around 2.4ton left for towing - LEGALLY

all this 'not for business' stuff is bollocks, if your overweight your over weight - and vosa will prosecute you 99/100 times

Paul,

You must be running a loaded van, trailer and car? My van has a 6000kg train weight and is a T350, which leaves me with a train weight of 2.5 tonne if I fully load the van. If the van is empty I could tow more.

These are the design capabilities of the vehicle. Exceed them and you're illegal. Business or personal use is irrelevant as you're still ouside the vehicles design weight.

Lee,

GVW is usually gross vehicle weight meaning van only. Your van and load including all occupants should not exceed 3.5 ton.

Mine says...

'Gross total weight' 3500kg

and

'Gross combination weight' 5500kg

So does this mean my van/contents/trailor/car together can weigh upto 5500kg?

I just checked on What van.co.uk and my Transit 280 MWB medium roof has a towing limit of 2000kg. I have also looked up the 260 which from the transit forum they state the port van is based and it says the towing limit is 900kg. It is based on a MK7 T260 130ps.

Right, I just read a bit more and it looks like the towing limit should be on your v5. From someone with one on the forum he states 1600kgs for a 280 so should be there abouts.

all weight are on the vin tag on all vans, first and second axle weights, fully laden weight and gros train weight

i still want a st van, might buy a crash damaged one and put all bits onto a 135 350 6 speed van, best of both worlds

Paul, you have been very lucky mate, i dont mean anything by saying this, i simply would hate to hear you got a massive fine if you got the official pull.

they are clamping down on weights massivly, they even built a special weighbridge near us that will hold 8 artics and trailers in bays whilst they did all the checks etc .
