SERIOUS - Help two journalists facing death penalty in Niger
I am posting this because one of the two journalists is loosely related to me.
You may or may not agree with their actions, and may feel they deserve to be sentenced, this is up to you and not up for discussion here - please.
However, if you feel that the right to accurate information needs journalists to bend the rules, or, disagree with the death penalty, then please read and sign the petition.
One of the journalists (the one I know), is half french/half english, here's a link to some information about him: http://www.jonhaylett.co.uk/index.php?id=21
This is a petition for all to sign, it's in french and english: http://pierre.thomas.alhassane.info/petition/
Note: You will receive an email to confirm your signature after you fill in the details, you will need to click on the link in the email to complete the signature process.
Thanks for your help and time.
Greg

They are imprisoned in Kollo jail near the capital, Niamey. Formally accused of “intelligence with armed groups” for ignoring the ban on journalists visiting the north of the country.
The two freely admit that they ignored the ban. They have written a letter to the Niger President, Mamadou Tandja, admitting their action and apologising. They appreciate that they have trespassed into a sensitive area.....

Sorry if that sounds harsh but its my opinion.

They were only trying to find out the truth and let the rest of the world know. If it wasn't for people like them, much of the news we get wouldn't exist.
Don't really want to discuss it here though as the convo could quite rapidly turn into a massive argument, and I don't want that on this topic which I hope we'll all understand.
