Default Should I do it?

I have a 36" TV in my sitting room which I love. Yes it's a big clumsy CRT and not a spangly LCD or plasma, but a) they cost a lot and b) I only watch SD stuff and honestly, SD TV, like Freeview, looks better on a CRT than a plasma...

Anyway, I reckon I would like to see movies, from PC and on DVD, on a much bigger screen... Whilst I love my TV and don't want to change it, and whilst I think generally it's a good size, and looks great for TV stuff, I would love to see films MUCH bigger

So I thought about hatching a budget projector set up

Brought home a large bit of card from work this eve that only needed a few CM chopping off it to make it the desired size - which is 150cm (w) by 84cm (H) which equels 67" diagonal

Looks like this;

So I then mocked it up with a perfect 1.85:1 (more or less a perfect 16:9 aspect ratio) film cell

Reckon I should do it?

Whats a half decent LCD/DLP data projector I can pick up second hand for a hundred quid or two?

Dojj - nothing, I'll still use it for watching TV on, and general film watching, but I just fancy a PJ for watching some films on REALLY BIG lol... The idea is the PJ screen will be put up infront of the TV, watch a film on it, and then take it down and it can live behind the sofa (I'll either make a hard board screen with folding legs so it can stand on the AV bench, or use a material screen which can be rolled up and unrolled and fitted to a removeable frame - sounds long, but on paper it's easy)

Ginge - I only wanna use it for films, and it'll only be connected to my PC anyway, so won't be able to show TV anyway....

What PJ did/do you have btw? Cost?

ive got a mitsubishi something, avoid them as there the most fuckign expensive bulbs i seem to find

it was ment to be soo good i could use it duing the day,,,, NEVER LISTEN TO A SALESMAN

dont get me wrong i love it, was gonna keep it for flims like you as my ENTIRE wall in the front room would be a tv,,,, porn was PROPER in detail

when Elise watches her cartoons shes looking all round the screen and when watching shriek you notice stuff in the background ect

just i had to buy suede curtains that make the room almost pitchblack cause dur the day from 11am till about 4pm the front room get hit by the sun as im on a steep hill facing the wrong way

Elise's room is on the other side so shes fine

think you need a 1000 lumin or above,,,, but dont quote me as im no sure if im talking shite about it or not so recheck first

oh cost,, erm,,,,,,, i think i got it for a little under 700 quid,, cant remember tbh as i lied to the missus what i paied for it as she would have had another baby as i wasnt earning that much at the time and money was tight

you can get em on ebay for peanuts though ive noticed ( after buying one )

but bulbs are the thing to remember if buying second hand

mine i have to turn off and let the fan cool the bulb THEN turn it off, 3 year olds dont appriciate money so its been mounted on the cealing and she has to use the remote to turn it off on standby with the fan going and i turn it off at the switch when i go to bed

she loves it though,,,, on and my playstation is rigged up to it in her room too on a cossie recaro seat,,,,, PROPER FUN

LOL @ Dojj installed stereo

The idea is I will only hook up the PC to it, so just one VGA cable, as all my gear is across the room next to the amp etc. If I get one with a HDMI input I might hook up my DVD player to it, but that means getting a 10m HDMI cable which won't be cheap

Still can't find a PJ tho. I want an LCD one, at LEAST a vga input, if not a bit more comprehensive, and 16:9 output (ideally 1280x720) but these ain't cheap! Can't even find one second hand for under Ł200!!!! And I don't even really wanna spend that much as I won't use it a whole lot, just now and again...

Anyone planning on robbing Argos soon? They have one I want but I don't wanna pay Ł800 for it
