Yes you can jaxk it up on the diff casing but use a piece of wood on the trolley jack

Not all diff casings are strong enough to safely do this, thats for sure.

No idea about impreza ones.

I always jack scoobs on the rear diff and use a piece of wood as already said. I've done it loads of times without any trouble.

My mate did convert his Scooby to RWD, done 2 diffs and a gearbox in 3 months driving it silly everywhere to be fair
