Default URGENT PC help! what have i blown up???

Just spent all day building a pc,

stuck the chip in , fan, gfx card, power supply and ram, and power'd it up for a test, all ok.

so carried on neating all the cables etc, hdd and dvd drive added and plugged all the usb conectors etc in,

then powered it up again, and heard an electric pop , so tuned off all power, and could smell burning but unable to find the source of the smell?

took out the dvd and hdd, have checked the cables to see if there was any shorts, but cant find non.

now when you power it up the fans move for a split second and thats it? the motherboard led is still on, but nothing happens??

any ideas what ive fucked up?

2 options as you have a power light, you may have not have blown up you PS, but do not rule it out as they can semi blow.

i still would go for the PS, but if its not the PS you have blwn the main board.

remove the power off all your harddisks and see as one of the diskes may have blown and is taking to much power

just unpluged every thing and 1 by 1 re'added bits,

stops working when the 1394 plug is pluged into the MB,

this comes from the front of the case, i think its the 2 front usb or firewire or audio sockets?

If you look closely, I bet you have a burnt out component on the motherboard.

Whether you can see it or not, it sounds like a faulty motherboard.

Is the bottom of the mother board touching the case?

Lift out m/board and look for smoke marks.

Where there is a bang there is smoke

.
