Electric IS! faster.. but by the sounds of it it was either a schumacher fusion,xtr3e or menace.. and NON of those can do 78mph
Well... mine is
Shumacher cars IMO are pretty crap, The Nitro ones atleast.....Back in the day they made some sweet off road electric buggies (Schumacher Cat anyone?)
Electric cars can accelerate like fooking mad yokes especially brushless equipped models.....The only problem is that for a good and fast electric set up the initial cost are huge......
Did get a good 60 out of the MP777 (according to the GPS )

I Love RC Cars
I Race 1/8th Buggys
Current one is a Kyosho 777 WC - i actually have 2 one for dry use and one for winter wet use....
Got a selection of engines - mainly RB Power...
Also got a couple of electric cars
TC3 - Touring car
TC4 - Touring car - complete with brushless motor etc - (Fookin Fast)
Kyosho half eight ( Mini version of buggy )
Losi Mini LST2 (actually my 2 boys have one each...)
Great fun but can be expensive to race if you want to do well

Here are a couple pics of my MP777
Unfortunately with the weather taking a turn for the worse during the summer it didnt stay as clean as that
My T-Maxx (one of my experimental bodyshells)
Some pics from the Irish 1/8th Nats
Mine is in the bottom right of both collages
And here are some pics i've taken down at the track

you cant buy Escos Shell's now, stop making them years ago, i know there is still a few Kits with wrc shells on, but you cant buy a Respol style one anymore, well not in the shops anyway, I know there ebay sometimes has them, Paul Ripley bought one awhile ago, paid over the odds for it but its worth it too some

well gr8 spent £70 refurbing my old remote control buggy, forgot how fast it was!!!!!! and after about 30 miniest managed to stack it into the curb, then about 5miniutes later the throttle got stuck on, so now i have snapped the bottom arm and bent the drive shaft, through mounting a 6inch curb at 20mph !!!!
