I'm at a point now where I need to make major decisions about the final spec of my cossie engine build, but just wondering if going mega spec is worth the huge increase in cost? how long does a 600BHP+ engine last, and is it a mega step over 550 ish?

how long a 600bhp engine last. depends on how many you drive the car in a year. it also depends at what kind of boost you are driving. if you drive a 600bhp spec engine with 14psi it will last a while.

whats the spec you have now?

All depends on components used. For example, Thrashing the nuts of a T4 to make over 500bhp is ALOT harder on the entire engine than making it easily with a GT35. Everthings working at a much lower temp and is therefore having an easier time

First you need to settle on a power figure you want and rev ceiling, then you can decide if you need the extra exspense of the rods and crank .

If you want to make full use of your GT35, then you'll be wanting it to rev to 8500, which will mean different valve-train, rods and crank .

Alternatively you could go for a more budget orientated engine and be happy with 600 bhp...

Good head , solid lifters (as the GT35 will be wanting to live at 8k ) and standard (but perfect condition) rods and crank and genuine Cosworth LOW COMP pistons.

Phil,
And just where do you intend on proving that claim? - I think my car will slaughter yours in the dash from one side of your living room to the other .
