what made you get into cars?

and where did you get all your diy mechanic skills from?

As soon as I was old enough to understand what a car was.

Again thanks to my old man.... he was a Jaguar tech, Now a BMW Tech so picked it up from him.

 

When did I get in to em- Partly from about 5, totally from about 17.

What got me in to it- Partly my brother and all his mental V8 and V12 things he was always building, but mostly TBH it was going in a mates modded Astra GTE 16v when I was about 17! It was mental, I was hooked

DIY skills from- my brother, getting ripped off by garages, and not having enough money to pay garages so buying a haynes manual and going for it myself.

 

Got into cars couple of years ago after having stopped riding my VTR1000 SP-1 (RC51) on the road and falling on my face several times.
Bought a Sierra Estate to replace my crap 3dr Pug 205, fell in love with the easy/cheap maintenance on Sierras. Then started modding it. That's how I learned most of it.

 

Dad allways had some nice but odd cars ( before i understode cars he had a 2wd saff cosworth as a company car for 7 months, how times change he now had a galaxy derv , hmm still rember being about 13 and buying the 1st maxpower 93ish

Always been interested, for aslong as i can remember. I was brought up on a farm, so ive always been around machinery of sorts, in tractors in the fields when i was about 2 with my dad.

Also rememver i used to play a game when i was about 5, wrote down the letters A-Z and had to come up with a car make(or model) beginning with that letter

My dad, uncles, papa etc, again when i was a kid, being out and about the farm with them in tractors, lorries, motorbikes etc.

Now ive found myself working in a series of main dealerships across Scotland, im around cars and vans all day

My dad was an Agricultural Mechanic, so i guess from him. In all honesty though, as soon as i bought an RS, i learned sooo much starter motor packed in, so whapped a new one on a couple of days later, alternator, radiator, engine mounts etc etc, all just learned it myself/with some guidance.

Never had an engine apart, or rebult one or done anything particularly intensive but i dare say i will eventually.

 

i got into cars as soon as i could drive, then i started working on them out of necessity, my dads a mechanic tho which helps although i did pretty much do a whole engine change single handed on my RS1800 which isnt bad for sum 1 with no mechanical training at all,

 

My dad used to take me to the scrapyard and have me stripping bits off cars from when I was about 6 or 7, Cortinas, Escorts, Granada's(sacrilege these days) and so my Ford love affair was born.

Was never really "into" them in a big way till I was about 20, was always into bikes though, from as old as I could tell what a motorbike was.

Driving my mates modified mini and realising cars could be fun too sometimes.

Initially just cause they are largely the same as motorbikes, and I used to keep repairing the braking the bikes me and my mate raced and my road bikes etc.
Then just picked stuff up as I went along with modifying my cars and maintaining them.

 

i got into cars at about 2 wen my dad let me steer his p5 rover v8 on pendine sands

this went on wen he started racing cars in autograss (which i do now) and i kinda fell in love

i got all my skills from watching all the ppl around me in the pits at banger racing and autograss, and bein down my dads mates workshop watching him andthen doin it all myself on my cars

 

as soon i could get my arse in a pedal car



the speed,noise, smell & becouse they get you places fast without you being out of breath, unless you push it

playing about with them,watching people,reading about them
