My wife has a standard 1.7 and the handling out of the box is superb, I was very surprised the first time I drove it, so I assume the Racing Puma will just turn the volume up a bit on the standard cars good points

A fella i know has one, i had a go against him in my old S2, where my car was faster on the straights, on the bends he was right on my arse, just lacked the straight line speed. By no means a slow car in my opinion though.

cars are good power abit naff. only downside is the service costs. brake calipers need to be rebuilt every so often as they have no dust sheilds. also the wings being aluminium iirc tend to suffer badly from stonechips. seats arent the most comfy in the world. but id have one

really great cars, can carry sooo much corner speed and the brakes will hurt your neck.
pretty good on fuel too, which is important with the price it is now, and most of the servicing is start Puma bits, so cheap too.
try and get one with an LSD if you can

They have some of the best seats money can buy in a road car IMO..
Main issue is the front brakes - replacement discs etc. are a stupid price because they are specific to that model.
I gather the Focus ST170 discs can be fairly easily modified to make them fit though.

Great cars if you don't mind paying a bit extra for the unique parts should they go wrong - body panels, driveshafts, hardened gearboxes, alcon brakes etc..
With 30bhp more than a standard they are slightly faster in a straight line, but not that much. (I can keep up with 'em on meets round the lanes )
They are becoming more affordable these days - many being around the 5-6K mark for a half decent one. Just be very choosy and insist on a FSH and recent brake service at least and make sure the cambelt is done every 5 years or 80K miles, whatever comes 1st and have evidence of that in.
And remember if you have a front impact crash, it'll might be an insurance right off as 2 wings and a front bumper will be well over £2300 just supplied, let alone painted and fitted.
But they are damn sexy

i like em, not drivven one tho
ive got a std 1.7 puma thats now on H&R coilovers, thing handles fookin ace now
just won a set of 4x4 cossie front callipers and discs and pads as the standard brakes are shite, just need to know if they fit under the standard wheels lol - anyone?
ill soon be getting a set of cams and a full FRP 4-2-1 manifold, sport cat and rear box, so should up the power to similar spec.
and then hopefully ill be going the bike carb route on it and management for at elast 160bhp
should be good enough on track, but obv not the quickest things out there

Anything other than fiesta / puma brakes and you'll have to drill out the hub carriers for the calipers. ST170 calipers need the hub carrier to be drilled out to 12mm as the std calipers are M10. Friends that have had them or mondeo ones need spacers to get them in the right place.
They have also had problem with brake wobble.
I've the later 260mm calipers fitted to my early puma with decent discs and Mintex Xtreme pads and they were fine blasting round the nurburgring all weekend

i have had a frp for the last 6 months and it still puts a smile on my face
they fast enough to leave the chav's behind but put it on an a road and it will out courner and break most things out there. all ways sounds like it needs anouther gear though and the cost of parts is stupid
i love it to bits though

I think they are nice cars. When you get up close to one they look really smart. I'd seen a few on the roads and didn't think too much of them, when my mrs' uncle turned up with one (and after seeing it up close) I thought it looked superb.
After being taken out in it I'd also say the handling is brilliant. It's such a shame they didn't make them with a bit more poke though! But what a great handling fun car!

one thing i did have to do tho was to cut off the abs ring, thus loosing the abs.
but was a small price to pay, the brakes were fappin amazing! would also lock up at 90mph if you really wanted
we recently sold our 1.7 normal puma, and i must say, its possibly the only car i have missed!
with the h&r coilovers it handles amazingly well, the cossi brakes made a massive massive difference, and the 4-2-1 piper exhaust system definatly made the engine rev easier, was a little raspy at certain revs, but deffo made it a tad quicker.
as for the FRP the bad points have been mentioned and are mostly the brakes, so long as you dont crash it lol
id buy one, but not for 5k lol, 2k maybe lol
