anyone bought a vag-com usb lead from ebay and it actually works?

if so can you post the sellers name as i want one, but would rather get one on a reccomendation that it does work as the last one i bought didn't and the seller wasn't interested.

I would go serial, but my laptop doesn't have a serial plug.

the ebay ones wont do the full lot, as the real leads have the key in them to unlock all the softwares facilities , sorry cant help with a seller tho, got mine from vagcom

 

The ebay ones dont do much. allow you to clear fault codes.

 

they allow you to read them but not to clear them

 

I got mine about a year ago now, from the USA it was. Looks a lot like this one but this one isnt it.

mine was from user e-cafe but he no longer sells them.
Worked straight away but only read the codes and that was it.
To get it all to work isnt that hard, basically when you 'acquire' the VAG-COM software whenever you open a new screen it deletes the key files on the hard drive putting it back to effectively trial mode which only allows you to read. If you download a program called x-starter you get it to copy these 'key' files every second or so to the VAG-COM directory so fooling it. It will delete them but the x-starter keeps putting them back in. This way works, ive managed to get ALL fault codes out mine, clear them etc. Hardest problem I've found is people are unwilling to share knowledge on certain codes for specific cars.

I've done the same with xstarter but I think its my lead, it won't let me clear the faults, only read them

comes up with some reason why it won't do it, I'll have a look later.

I might need someone's hel with xstarter too (if you get my drift )
