Too many posts.. I need a life!!
I work on them at my dealership and I have to say I am never impressed, however I think there is a reason. You get all the hype of the R32 and expect a LOT from it and it just doesn't deliver, it is a fast car but you expect a REALLY fast car, the same engine in the new Passat always gives me a smile and I think it's just that you don't expect the pace from it. It's all about perceptions
Older Mk4 R32 feels more raw and is a bit more fun IMHO.
However my choice would be a Mk5 GTi Edition 30, they have the S3 motor in them detuned(not a tuned GTi motor) and with a simple chip are up at 300bhp area. So much fun to drive!!!
Other than pulling away and if you can't control your right foot, the Mk5 chassis handles the turbo engine very well, and once rolling there is no need for the heavy 4wd as the R32 drives largely in FWD anyway. The Gti, even in standard form, is a better drive IMHO more chuckable and rewarding.
All of our techs share my opinion also, however the R32 sounds glorious!!!
